It's junk, 28 Oct 2008
There have been many suggestions in order to fix the disconnection problems with this piece of equipment but really there should be no need. At first it held the connection for maybe ten minutes. Then it would need to be removed and inserted again to continue. Of course any downloads would then need to start again so I could never get the new drivers! Once I installed new drivers it disconnects after about 30 seconds.
There should not be any of these issues with an expensive and supposedly superior wireless adapter. I expect it to work as it says on the box and not need to spend several hours trying to fix Netgear's problems. I will try the latest suggestions before going at it with a blowtorch and a pair of pliers. Garbage.
The hidden flaws, 14 Oct 2008
I bought this adapter when I purchased a new Vista Business based PC which I linked to the BT HomeHub 2.0. Set-up was easy and I was impressed for quite some time. However suddenly I was unable to access the Internet after closing down my PC and re-booting. The only solution was to remove all the Netgear s/w from the PC and reload from the CD after that all was fine until I next closed down my PC. Every time I boot up my PC I have to go through the laborious process of s/w removal and re-installation before I can get back onto the internet. I have been in contact with Netgear engineers but after many messages between us the problem remains unsolved. I have just bought a different adapter after finally giving up on this battle
One of the best you can get!, 20 Sep 2008
Installed and used 3 of them over the years, in different PC's, XP, Vista - no problem at all. Much better connection than my Belkin adapters-I threw those away and replace with these
Excellent product, works perfectly, recommended, 08 Sep 2008
I got this to connect to a Netgear DG834G router. It was a doddle to install and works perfectly under XP Pro SP3 using either the drivers on the supplied CD or the latest drivers downloaded from Netgear. Signal strength is good and it appears to be perfectly stable and doesn't drop the connection. I've used both the Windows and the Netgear configuration utilities and both work fine. For completeness I should say that I've not tried it under any other OS or with any other router. I also don't work for Netgear!
I don't know why some people have had such bad experiences with it - there are three versions listed on the Netgear web site, and mine is the newest version (v3). Most of the critical reviews seem quite old and there may be problems with the earlier versions.
I have 25 years experience with computers and know what I'm doing, but this didn't require any technical ability whatsoever. All I can say is that I found it to be an excellent product and great value for money.

Works like a dream for the PS3, 13 Nov 2008
I've only had this router a day but so far so good. I cannot comment on reliability but no dropped connections as yet. I bought the Netgear router because my old Zyxel P660HWt1v2 router wouldn't allow any ports to be forwarded (even though it should) to my PS3 - which meant some of my multiplayer games wouldn't work online. Apparently, uPnP (universal plug and play standard, for port forwarding) is not the most robust or reliable of standards therefore for some games/applications ports must be forwarded manually (or your PS3 put in the DMZ of your router, although DMZ is not recommended as it exposes your PS3 to hackers). With the Netgear Router I still have the same problems with certain games not working online using uPnP - it's not the fault of the router - but at least now I can resolve these problems by doing the port forwarding myself manually. So far all of my PS3 games work online with the Netgear Router (with a few port forwarding tweaks) - only about half of my games worked with my old Zyxel router, regardless of the port forward/firewall rule settings.
One niggle is that I had to download a firmware update before the Router would work properly - not a good thing when you're going through a manual set-up. Took me around 1 hour to connect a PC and PS3 - to work correctly. I cannot comment on the wizard set-up - I didn't bother with this as I'm reasonably familiar with router configuration and knew I'd have to make lots of manual settings changes anyway for my particular network.
All in all I'd highly recommend this router for the PS3 - and N0 problems working with my PC either!
Beware the Set-Up Wizard Loop !, 12 Nov 2008
If you choose to use the set-up wizard rather than manually configuring this box be absolutely sure you have correct ISP details and a working internet connection. I made a mistake on the initial entry of my ISP password, after which the thing went into an endless loop, constantly redirecting the browser from any attached PC into its own set-up wizard, but never completing. Even though I then got connected, Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera were all unusable in this state.
The solution to this is to press the hard reset button on the Netgear, go back into the wizard from the start and then take the "No thanks - I'll do it manually" option (or however they word it).
Otherwise - it works fine ! Coverage seems no worse in my house (brick built 20s semi) than the supposedly more advanced 834PN (rangemax model) which it replaced. Let's hope it doesn't die after 2 years as that one did...
Simple Setup! , 11 Nov 2008
When my friend asked me to help set up a wireless router to use with his BT broadband account, he first of all tried to obtain one direct from BT. Unfortunately BT had no stock of the Netgear 834 model so I got him one from Amazon (via Pixmania) for a lot less money! Then I suddenly realised that this would not be supplied with the BT installation disc and neither would BT offer telephone support if we needed help installing it as they had not supplied it. So I was dreading last Monday evening thinking I would end up wishing I hadn't offered my services!
Anyway, I need not have worried. All I had to do was connect the thing up, enter his BT email address and password and that was it. Almost instant connection to the internet. Next job was installing the Netgear wireless adaptor (slip the CD in and follow directions). After a couple of minutes the laptop had communicated with the router and we were online - wirelessly! I need not have worried (as I had been!) about configuring the router as it all seemed to happen automatically. Setting the wireless security was a little more tricky but otherwise the whole process was a piece of cake. Just a word of caution - as this item was supplied by Pixmania from France (via Amazon) you need to buy UK filter/splitters if you need them. However, Pixmania did include a two-pin to 13 amp plug adaptor for the mains transformer.
Easy to install and use, 08 Nov 2008
After reading a number of different reviews for wireless routers I was a little concerned that I might run into difficulties installing and setting this up. But, I couldn't believe how easy it was. Apart from crawling around under my desk to disconnect my old ADSL modem it couldn't have been easier. Simply followed the instructions on the setup disk, everything went together very easily and was up and running in about 20 minutes. New laptop connected wirelessly with no fuss (almost as easy as logging on via my neighbours unsecured network) and now everything appears to be working perfectly. I just hope I'm not tempting fate and that it continues that way!
good kit, 30 Oct 2008
DG834G purchased it not to long ago, installed real easy with the netgear software on the disk, warning I am on AOL, computer running XP
AOL software version 4 did not set this modem router up,
it messed the thing up good,
use the netgear disk or manually install it.
So far very pleased with it works well
not tried the wireless part yet no need for it at this time but will later.
It takes a standard bt land line rj11 and a rj45 cable which both are included in the box.
Very easy to install and set up.

Edimax EW-7318USG Wireless USB LAN Adapter 4dBi Antenna, 802.11b.g 54Mbps
I have tried all week on and off the get this to work. Even with the router in the same room it fails to connect. When it does connect, all is fine but switch off and next time you boot up!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????
You set it up again and all is fine. I downloaded the latest driver. Same result. It works fine for 10 minutes but re-boot and nothing even with the router in the same room.
What a wonderful product, 17 Nov 2008
Received this morning set up in 10 minutes which is very good for me as I am not very good at this kind of thing, more than impressed with it. It found my BT Home Hub with no problems. Small Price, Great Performace 98% Signal Strength.
Very good value for money, 05 Nov 2008
I persevered with a Belkin Wireless network for 2-3 years and thought it was an occupational hazard that the signal varied, dropped, refused to connect (sometimes) and often slowed without reason.
You don't need to live with that kind of service and this product has given sterling service already for several months. The signal is always good or better the line/signal has dropped once in 8 weeks and I can't fault it.
In this day and age where we feel obliged to pay more rather than less in the belief we are getting a better, more reliable product, this bucks the trend.
Excellent value, breeze to set up, buy it!
Pretty good, 02 Nov 2008
I got one of these to link up my main PC to the net and the router is in the living room 2 rooms away. The signal strength varies from 50% - 90% but is generally at the higher end.
The only minor issue I have with it is it seems to keep asking for my security key over and over... I am trying it in different usb sockets, but you would think that I didn't have to keep entering the code every time I slotted it in.
Having said that I am impressed with the actual wireless function itself and realistically how often are you going to be taking it out and in...? it's almost as good as the my Dell Laptop internal.
Recommend.
Sorry but this is awful., 01 Nov 2008
As for plus points, it was easily set up with the software on the disk, and was working within a few minutes. I also get good signal strength.
However, the drivers for it are not built for Vista, and this seems to have been the start of no end of problems, It was cutting out, and producing slow internet for ages.. with me constantly installing and reinstalling the software to no effect. When I realised I should get the Vista driver from Edimax I did so, and now it works better, but still not well. It keeps cutting out, and on startup refuses to work unless it does all sorts of worrying installation processes. It also keeps renaming the connection.
Now maybe this is partly because of personal ignorance on my part or a faulty piece of hardware, but at the least I would not reccomend this equipment as I feel without the Vista compatibility it is too out of date.

The End to my Network Miseries, 17 Nov 2008
Having struggled for a number of years with Home Wireless Networks, like many reviewers before me, I have finally taken the plunge and found the solution to those anoying dead spots around the house. Within 10 minutes of arriving home with these, all my problems have gone. I can now use my internet radio and laptop anywhere. Print server glitches have disappeared and I now find myself wondering what to do with all the free time I will Have.
If you have Wireless troubles, buy these.
Max Value 85 Mbps Home Plug, Double unit pack, 08 Nov 2008
Was having problems with my wireless network getting through the thick brick walls in my new house. Bought a pair of these little beauties. Plugged one into the living room wall, connected to my wireless router. Plugged the other into the wall socket in the bedroom. Then connected the bedroom unit to a spare wireless router. I now have wireless all around the house.
Excellent!
Max Value Home Plug, 05 Nov 2008
This product is an amazing peice of kit, I find it so hard to believe this isn't so well known. It worked without any set up other than plugging it in,it put me on xbox live instantly up in the attic.
Way way better than wireless for its stability.
I am very impressed by this product! A god send for me with all the problems I have had with wireless in my home office.

ideal for xbox live, 03 Nov 2008
My son wanted to connect to xbox live in his bedroom, but when I looked at the xbox wireless network solution, I found that it did not work with WPA2 security. So rather than downgrade my security settings, I went for this option. So simple - one unit connects to the router, the other to the xbox, and it was working in under a minute. No flaky wireless signals, and £20 cheaper than the xbox wireless adapter.
Amazing, 29 Oct 2008
amazingly easy to use. instantly worked for my xbox with no software. Much cheaper than xbox wireless adaptor for me and much more stable connection

When my friend asked me to help set up a wireless router to use with his BT broadband account, he first of all tried to obtain one direct from BT.
Simply followed the instructions on the setup disk, everything went together very easily and was up and running in about 20 minutes. Just couldn't get this to work. According to the instructions it should have done but it didn't. Spent ages fiddling about but it wouldn't pick up any signal let alone mine. It went back.
Brilliant! Works great on Windows Vista!, 08 Nov 2008
I read all the reviews and was hopeful on buying this, with the many 5* ratings I bought this little gadget!
I'm using it with my BT voyager on my HP laptop. It was so easy to install, just pop it into the usb, asks for the CD and connects! It coudln't be more simple. The signal strength could be better though if your in another room, but what do you expect with something really good value for money?
The person that said that it was a bit wobbly I agree with, but it doesn't fall out so don't worry. And i'm using it to type this review now :)
So my advice is to ahead and buy this if you have Windows Vista!!
Not for everyone, 23 Oct 2008
I saw all the generally favourable reviews for this product and decided to give it a go as my first dip into wireless broadband.
I have a relatively old laptop (4 years old) with Windows XP Home and has worked fine with any kind of wired connectivity.
The product arrived speedily and for the first day or two it worked well and I was impressed with the results and the consistency of the signal. However without any obvious change from then on it deteriorated rapidly to the point where I could not connect at all to my home wireless network. I am computer literate enough to get by with most things and despite all obvious troubleshooting including uninstalling and re-installing drivers both from the CD and the Sweex website, locating it right next to the router etc etc I had no success. Its not a problem with our router as it works fine for other laptops and also when I connect via an ethernet cable.
I was then sent a second one by Amazon and I had no success with this either so both have been returned and have been refunded.
So clearly its not for everyone ....
Two in a row failed, 12 Oct 2008
I bought one and it worked great...for about 2 weeks. It seemed to have completely died. No light, no life. Amazon quickly sent me a replacement, great! The second one worked great...for about 1 1/2 weeks. Same thing, no light, no life. I haven't even gotten the first one in the post back to Amazon. Now I'm out of pocket for the return mailing costs for two of them. It obviously works for a lot of people, but, sadly, I'm not one of them.
No problems, 06 Oct 2008
Works perfectly, XP and Vista.
No problems. Can't fault it. Easy install etc etc...
I would give it 5 stars if there was someone to store the cap. As it is, you need to try and not lose it when you have the stick plugged in! I can live with that... especailly for this price.
Don't pay any more when this will do the job better than some others I have had.

Not great, 17 Nov 2008
Like beating your head against a brick wall, 14 Nov 2008
Speaking without hyperbole, I think I can say that out of all the equipment I have bought throughout my life, from toasters to CD writers, this is without a doubt the WORST thing I have ever had the misfortune to waste my money on. With the computer in one room and the wireless router in just the next room, I have never had a signal strength stronger than "poor". My flatmates use different wireless cards and have no problems (just in case you think it's the router). As an experiment, I placed the wireless adapter right next to the router, as in four inches away, and it still couldn't find the network.
It is difficult just browsing the internet as the connection (when available) keeps getting lost. I am very disappointed with Belkin. Particularly after having previously bought the wireless desktop card only to find that I needed to download a driver from the internet in order to access the internet - proving Belkin have a keen sense of irony if nothing else. I think the amount of 1 star reviews this device has had says it all.
Terrible Product, 09 Nov 2008
I don't normally write reviews but this product was soo bad i thought it was my moral obligation to warn others. Worked fine for a couple of weeks, then stopped working. Updated drivers did everything still to no avail. The Belkin Software that is included is a joke and actually stops it from working on Vista. This is the second Belkin product that has died on me and i have lost all faith in this brand. My advise is stick to the netgear or linksys adapters they might look ugly but at least they get the job done!
Not up to the job, 03 Nov 2008
Hi, first time I have decided to add a review which usually means it was brilliant or rubbish. I have given it one star so you can probably guess which.
It just did not work unless I was within 1m of the router (Belkin wireless router). I bought this to make my Tosh laptop into a wireless beast but alas failed. I also have an IBM thinkpad with wireless built in and I was getting 'very good' signal strength on the wireless connection with the IBM and 'No Signal' with this adapter. This was through one wall and a distance of about 2m from router. Very disappointing. I bought this from PC World, sorry Amazon, and they were very good and took it back no questions asked. I think asking no questions was a mistake though as they should pass on customers' feedback, well done Amazon for providing this useful feature.
Hope this helps.
It works, but you need the latest drivers, 10 Oct 2008
Worked fine, but never after a reboot. My advice is to download the latest firmware from Belkin - for mine (v3.xx) this was f5d7050v3_ww_03.00.02_w2.exe
This has a much better Wireless Configuration GUI and you shoudl be fine - even so, I configured (via the new GUI) so that Windows XP manages the WiFi connection in the normal way. Now all is fine, even from reboot.
Works great apart from this caveat.
Absolute Rubbish, 29 Sep 2008
I am at a loss to know why Belkin are still selling this product. It has not worked propely from day one. I have tried all of the suggested "fixes" and none have worked. It has been used with 2 PC's and 2 Laptops, all with XP, which I think is giving it a good trial. The results have been the same. Belkin technical advice is non existant. Please do yourself a favour and do not buy this product. Try the Edimax EW-7318 USG.

All I can say is that I found it to be an excellent product and great value for money.
very good product, 19 Jun 2008
i bought this and a Netgear's 54 Mbps wireless router (WGR614v4) and it worked well...at 1st it was easy to get used to and it is a value for money product..i got into other peoples internet routers in an instant:P
