Fantastic product, 19 Nov 2008
Excellent product, did exactly what I needed it to do. My signal has been boosted from always being "Very Low" before to "Very Good" now.
The setup wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected (after reading some other reviews on here). We managed to get everything up and running in about 10 minutes.
DNW fault, 09 Nov 2008
Read the reviews, but thought I might for once be one of the lucky ones...I wasn't, alas.
This device definitely does *not* do what it says on the tin.
Tried "One Touch" configuration -
Powered up next to WiFi Router;"Find" light flashed; pressed button 10 secs as directed: light stopped flashing (sometimes; sometimes it wouldn't stop at all, sometimes it took much longer than 10 secs); took it 5 yards (sorry, metres - showing my age!) away, well within existing WiFi range; plugged in; light started flashing (i.e. it hadn't remembered the settings as promised); checked instructions; tried again...and again.
Conclusion; DNW fault; Does Not Work. I might have been able to get it going given a fews hours with the manual, but Life's Too Short - especially at my age.
What beats me (apart from why I thought *I'd* be lucky when 31 reviews almost all said the same thing) is i) why do Amazon keep selling it, and ii)why don't Belkin fix it, or issue amended setup instructions, or withdraw it, when there's clearly a problem, and a usually reliable company is in danger of losing its reputation.
Holy Moly!, 23 Oct 2008
What can I say.. If your running a WLAN with wireless encryption the 'Auto Connect' feature on this Belkin F5D7132 will NOT work. If your not running with encryption on your WLAN then you should be.
Also for those of you who's modem/router changes the 'Channel ID' everytime it's powered up, this Belkin F5D7132 will change it's channel to match the modem/routers and it'll connect no problem. This is a useful feature.
O.K so we have many, many reviews saying what a pain these Belkin F5D7132's can be to connect to. Easy solution...
Directly connect the Belkin F5D7132 to your PC with RJ45 network cable. Specify your own TCP/IP settings, you IP address should be 192.168.2.1, the Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0 and the Default gateway should be 192.168.2.254 - Then open up explorer, and in the address bar type http://192.168.2.254 This will take you directly into the Belkin F5D7132's setup page. If you don't get this page or you get a password prompt then hold a pin or a paper clip into the small reset button on the rear of the Belkin F5D7132 for 10 seconds and retry.
So your conencted to your Belkin F5D7132 now, just a quick case of setting up and then it's ready to power down, reset the manual network settings back to Auto, unplug from your PC and reconnect to where ever this device is going to live.
I have to say I really like these devices. Whilst living in the UK I was using one of these to share my broadband to my neighbour who lived three houses up the street. Now im living in Ireland (and using a DSL wireless router, which is a bit of a shock as I'm used to fibre optics) but the Belkin F5D7132 connects seamlessly, where as my other device, a Belkin F5D7130 refuses to talk to the modem/router no matter what I do.
Thanks for reading my ramblings, enjoy the Belkin F5D7132 - Vista support coming!!
Easy and works perfectly!, 12 Oct 2008
I live in an older-style London house with thick walls, and I've always had problems getting wireless reception to the whole house. I bought this as a range extender to solve that problem and I can happily say it works PERFECTLY. It was easy as pie to set up out of the box, I simply turned off the security on my BT Homehub, used the automatic setup button to connect the extender, then placed it where I wanted it. When I turned it back on, it found the signal again, but I did have to use the auto search button once more. I then turned security back on, as long as the password you set on the router and extender match, there is no issue. You will have to have a little more technical know-how to get the security going, but no more than knowing how to change IP addresses (which is all explained in the PDF manual on the disk provided) and following a simple menu. I did this all on a Mac laptop. I initially had problems with WEP security but once I changed it to WPA it was fine and has worked ever since.
If you have a secure network do not buy this, 15 Sep 2008
I got one of these and spent 3 hours setting it up on virgin broadband - what a bother.
Daftly I got another one and tried to set it up with a SKY ADSL router. After 12 hours I give up completely.
This might work straight forwardly with no security, but with SKY WPA Passphrase - a nightmare.
I am now going to get the Devolo MicroLink dLan Ethernet connections which should work great for PCs.

Excellent PDA - YOU MUST GET ONE!, 22 Oct 2008
I've been using my Jornadas for years now and been quite happy with them, so you can imagine how wonderful it was to find this PDA for 140 quid from a seller on Amazon.
Upgrading from a Jornada 928 was really a leap so you might be thinking that I'd think any of the new PDAs were brilliant. But, I have to say, this has all the features you could possible want for email, internet browsing (even though the mobile version is more limited than the PC version).
Browsing is quick - pictures and text are loaded quickly from internet sites. You can use it for eBay. I am a seller and I use it to check my sales and the wap version of the eBay site loads fine and is easy to use (I had trouble loading it on my phone - it was just awful!). I haven't found any website to be a problem yet.
Just tap the wi-fi icon and it finds your broadband router and asks for the wep key - it's that easy!
I put my email details in and it tells me on my 'Today' screen if I have any new messages. It doesn't automatically delete them from the server, so you can use it as a window to view your messages before dealing with them properly at your laptop/pc. You can, however, set the PDA to delete all the messages from the server at the same time as you delete them from your PDA if you wish by changing a setting in the options.
The newest version of Active Sync was supplied and picked up my new PDA and my old PDA no problem.
The 'OK' button pressed and held for a couple of seconds lets you rotate the screen to landscape and I have found I prefer this view for other applications as well as for internet browsing. A left-handed option is also available in settings.
I don't know what else to say other than this has wi-fi, bluetooth which are both really easy to set up. Ok, there's no phone or camera but I've already got a camera phone that I love for that and it suits me fine to have a PDA that's just for internet use and organization. All the necessary notes, word and calculation programs are included as well as superb media software. Programs load quickly so there's no waiting between screen taps and something happening. Fantastic little PDA!
Great bargain and worth every penny! GET ONE!
Maybe a decent phone would be better, 30 Aug 2008
I bought the iPAQ to replace my deceased Palm Tungsten E which I liked, but the new Tungstens have had reports of unreliability. On the positive side the iPAQ syncs easily with my Windows XP computer, and was easy to connect with my domestic WiFi, though using the internet on a small screen will always be a limited and frustrating experience.
However I find the Windows Mobile 6 operating system very clunky to use, no quicker than the organiser on my mobile phone. The Palm was far simpler and more intuitive. The real question is whether it is worth having the iPAQ as well as your mobile phone. To make the case it has to do the job better and quicker. For me it isn't a sufficient improvement over the phone. If you are going to use the Mobile Office software, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook a lot then maybe you can make a case for it. Otherwise I'd think hard about upgrading your phone instead.
A GOOD PDA, 17 Aug 2008
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ONLY IF YOUR GOOD WITH PC'S, I USE IT FOR BYKI PDA VERSION. I SPENT A COUPLE OF HOURS PROGRAMING AND INSTALLING AND LEARNING HOW TO USE. PDA VERSION HAS RECOGNIZE IT, MULTIPLE CHOICE RECOGNIZE IT, PRODUCE IT, MULTIPLE CHOICE PRODUCE IT AND REVIEW IT. THE FLIP CARDS CAN DISPLAY BOTH PICTURE AND SOUND + YOU CAN VIEW THE LISTS, IN LIST VIEW. YOU NEED TO RUN IT WITH A SD MEMORY CARD, KEEP ALL YOUR LIST INSTALL ON THIS DON'T USE THE BYKI SOFTWARE TO INSTALL THE LISTS, SO FIRST GET YOUR LISTS FROM YOUR MAIN PC TO A USB PEN OR DESKTOP FOLDER THEN TO THE MEMORY CARD IN THE POCKET PC. ONCE YOU DOWNLOAD THE BYKI PDA SOFTWARE FROM THERE WEBSITE IT SHOULD COPY INTO YOUR TRANSPARENT BYKI FOLDER ON YOUR MAIN c:\ HOME PC. THEN YOU NEED TO LOCATE Before You Know It 3.6 Pocket PC Extension FOLDER AND COPY IT TO YOUR PDA ETHER NEXT TO WINDOWS OR PROGRAM FOLDER. THEN INSTALL PUT YOUR MEMORY CARD WITH YOUR LISTS IN, AFTER INSTALLATION YOU MY NEED TO RESTART THE PDA TO UPDATE THE SYSTERM.
YOU SHOULD THEN HAVE A BYKI ICON IN YOUR START MENU. ITS A GREAT TOOL TO WORK WITH. ON PDA click Start > Settings > Connections.
Click or tap USB to PC. Clear the Enable advanced network functionality check box IF YOU FIND YOU CAN'T CONNECT PDA TO THE PC. JUST TELLING YOU THESE THINGS SO IT WON'T TAKE YOU SO LONG TO GET IT UP AND RUNNING. HAVE FUN

I have had my 114 for about a fortnight and so far have had no problems with it. It is easy to use and syncs well with Vista / Outlook with no conflicts. The only gripe I have (and it is a small one beileve me) is that so far I have found no way to colour code the appointments in the diary. A useful piece of kit!
Probably the best iPaq yet ..., 14 Dec 2007
I have now had this device for a couple of weeks. I have previously owned several Pocket PCs, including a few earlier versions of the iPaq. Of the ones I have tried, this is almost certainly the best. Having WiFi, Bluetooth, SDHC support (previous versions didn't support the new higher capacity cards that this one does - I have an 8Gb SD card in mine), a standard USB connection (previous iPaqs I owned use a proprietary USB connector) a relatively fast processor, the latest version of Windows Mobile (including useful new features such as SD card data encryption) all whilst retaining a relatively small form factor is a strong combination. Whilst many will opt for a Pocket PC phone (as my last Windows Mobile device was), having a seperate PDA from your phone has advantages for some e.g. if you are obliged to use a particular mobile phone for work (as I am) then you don't need phone features on your PDA. With this device I can keep all of my personal contacts seperate from the business contacts on my phone and use bluetooth to get my phone (a Blackberry Pearl) to dial any number I select on my iPaq Classic. Add in a high capacity SD card and this device doubles up as a reasonably competent media player. It has a standard headphone socket (no headphones supplied) or you can use the built in speaker. Web browsing over wi-fi works as well as any device I have seen of this size. It also comes with a rather nice slip case. Overall, not a stunning leap forward compared to previous iPaqs but its hard to find fault with it.

Excellent!, 17 Nov 2008
I'm afraid some reviewers have missed the point with this device, ok, if you can reach the switches easily, then that isn't a problem, but for so many of us having all the wiring, sockets etc tucked out of the way like mine, then this is a godsend!
Turn your PC on and 5 seconds later all the peripherals are on, no problem.
I'm definately getting one for the TV etc next.

Works for LCD TVs too, 09 Nov 2008
I bought one of these for use with my LCD TV. I use it to turn on a lamp that acts as a back light. (So you turn the TV on, with the TV remote, and the lamp comes on automatically.)
Just thought I would mention it as the description is for a PC but my Sony LCD 40" TV operates it just fine.
Brilliant piece of kit, 07 Oct 2008
I baught this item cos I was doing a mame converstion.. so I needed a one button start up function.. looked everywhere for something like this.. B&Q, homebase Maplin, ebay.. then somehow i saw this.. baught one and it works like a charm.. all did is turned the pc on and the speakers, Marquee light and monitor comes on 5 secs after.. exactly what I wanted to do.. then I baught the item again.. cos of my TV room.. seeing as the living cos was going up.. needed to save some money on electric bill.. this works for TV and sKY, surround sound systems ect too.. god bless !
Excellent product, 17 Aug 2008
Have mentioned this product to other people, only to be asked `why don't you just turn it all off at the plug`, well the plug is behind a shelving unit - so pretty hard to get to and what are my chances of my kids remembering to do this? not good I would guess.
The intelliplug is so simple to use, and seeing all the other six peripheral lights go out when you turn off your pc is instant gratification.
Must admit energy costs are really focusing my mind at the moment and anything which helps is a bonus.
It failed, 13 Aug 2008
Worked okay for 18 months, then peripherals (including monitor) started being switched off while I was still working on the PC. A few days later, it wouldn't switch on any peripherals with the PC at all. Oneclickpower didn't want to know as it was out of warranty.
1yr warranty is inadequate for a product like this, which should last decades. A waste - considering how much it cost it didn't save anything like enough electricity to justify itself. When you add in the cost of resources used in manufacture - it's definitely not a green option.

HAVE FUN
User friendly, 29 Jul 2008
Hope this is of some use.

Works well but no advantage over a Smartphone, 27 Jun 2008
I have been using a PDA of some kind for at least 12 years but it is now a dying product. The bottom line is that the IPAQ 214 offers no significant computing advantages over my 3 year old O2 XDA II Smartphone. I have also found that because PDAs are getting less support from the manufacturers I have had problems in getting accessories such as extra stylus pens. Having said this, after a few months use it has worked fine with no need to reset as yet. My only negative comment is that it feels quite delicate in construction and that it would break if dropped (as opposed to my O2 XDA that is built like a tank).
The bottom line is that I can't really recommend PDAs any longer because some of the Smartphone are as good as PDAs, if not better. But if you really want to buy one then this is a good and reasonably priced model.
Great Standalone PDA, 26 May 2008
This is my first PDA so I do not have any prior experience for comparison. However, if like me you were/are on the lookout for a standalone PDA (without phone) then this is the product for you. Below I have highlighted a list of pros and cons from my perspective.
Pro
* SCREEN (4" transflective TFT, 260K colours, 640 x 480 pixel touch panel display with LED backlight) - fabulous, I love it! ...this is definitely one of its best points. The colour is very good and image is sharp.
* Battery life - It is better than other PDAs out there. Personally I use it a lot and find it isn't enough (2200 battery) so I am upgrading to the monster 4400 battery.
* Set up + installation - easy enough.
* Operating System- Windows Mobile 6
* Expansion - both a CompactFlash and a separate SDHC card slot allows this device to use a 32 GB memory card in each slot for a maximum total of 64 GB of storage......now that a lot of memory!
* Connectivity (Integrated Wireless Integrated WLAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR)- I have only used WLAN, which was easy to setup and use.
* Cables and Connectors - AC adapter and mini-USB Port. The AC adapter allows you to both sync and charge the device.
Cons
* Speakers (audio) - poor volume. There are two speakers, but they do not work together at the same time. I hope iPAQ will fix this issue, as it is a major disadvantage of this product. As far as GPS goes, you can forget about (IMHO).
* No cradle
* D-pad -some have commented this is poorly designed. Personally, I do have an issue with it.
* Compatibility issues - It has come to light on many forums that CF cards put a huge drain on the system and some people have gone as far as not even using CF cards and only using SDHC cards. Also, others have found problems with software. Personally, I have not had any trouble with the software I have installed.
* Slip case - this will do if you just want something to protect the product while not in use. However, I prefer something that opens out, so I had to invest in a PDAair case.
* No handbook - minor point but for something that costs this much I would have liked a hard copy. You have to go to the HP website to download the handbook
* Cost of other products - for the first timers among you, remember in evaluating the overall cost you need to account for things like software (in my case medical software, backup software e.g. Sprite, today screen e.g. spb pocket plus (the one installed is very basic), Styletap (so one can use Palm software, as a lot free medical programmes are in Palm format, although many are now doing windows), Opera software if you do not like internet explorer...etc...the list is endless and the sky is the limit); ? new case; screen protectors...etc. The cost of things soon adds up.
Overall, I would recommend this product to others. It is a top of the line standalone PDA, where the strengths outweigh the weaknesses (apart from the audio that is!!). I hope this review helps other novices like me.
Good but not great., 06 May 2008
I bought the iPAQ214 to replace my iPAQ1940 which I dropped (boo hoo). It's an impressive looking piece of kit with all the functionality you'd expect from an HP product. The screen is excellent and remains useable even in bright sunlight. The 214's wireless connectivity is a big step up from my old PDA and seems to work well (it's interesting to see just how many unsecured networks there are out there!). There are some negative points though. The first thing that struck me was the size; it's a lot larger than the 1940 and doesn't fit in the hand as snuggly (and I've got monster hands!). It also won't fit in my shirt pocket. The second thing is the touch sensitivity of the screen. My old PDA responded to even the lightest touch but the 214 seems to need quite a firm press which can make entering lots of text a bit of a chore. Lastly, the battery seems to run down quite quickly.
Overall though, it's useable and reasonable value for money.
Nice clear VGA screen but annoying hiss , 11 Apr 2008
I bought this to replace my dead iPAQ 2210 and I was impressed with its very clear display very good for reading pdfs watching DVDs, however there is a loud background hiss which is very annoying when listening to something quiet. Unfortunately Im not the only one to spot this, this is a common problem with this device and hp have provided no resolution, so I had to return mine as faulty. But thinking about buying this again when the problem is sorted I dont think I could be bothered for over ツ」200 for what I paid for it you could spend the same and get twice the functions e.g. MWg Atom V. The only positive it has is its screen size, but who cares when Laptops are getting so cheap now, to me this device is BORING and nothing new from my 2210 which is 4 years old. I wouldnt pay more than ツ」130 for this paper weight
Disappointing HP invest in R&D next time.
iPAQ 214 review, 09 Mar 2008
The iPAQ 214 has its quirks. The buttons I find too low in the device. If they were a little prouder it would be easier to change pages while reading e-books in bed at night. It is also not so comfortable in the hand as my older iPAQ h1930 running windows CE 4.20. I have only had the iPAQ214 for a few days but one thing that does irritate is the seemingly missing ability to scroll to the next page in a large documents. It scrolls to the next highlighted word, but that is not the same thing.
I tried a 4gig SD card to view the 3.3 gig Wikipedia I purchased but it would not work. But on the compact flash card it works a treat, so I am very pleased, as my old h1930 could not see anything over 2 gigs.
The larger screen is a nice bonus, and makes it suitable for night reading. The battery life is impressive, after reading for an hour and a half I still had 85% power left, way better than my old PDA.
Windows mobile 6 take a little getting used to, but I am sure it will be fine. Internet connecting could not have been easier. It is a nice bit of kit, not so convenient to handle as the 3.5 inch, but worth it.
I thought long and hard before buying this, and I am glad I did. Amazon were incredibly quick to deliver post free. It arrived the very next day after ordering. Apart from the low profile buttons which make it a little difficult to hold and manoeuvre the device without it slipping, I am well pleased. It does not feel as sturdy as my iPAQ h1930, and the back case is not so rigid. Also the stylus is a pain, the end piece that slots so neatly into the case when done, sticks into your finger when you write. Summing up. 7 out of 10.

HAVE FUN
User friendly, 29 Jul 2008
Hope this is of some use.
* No cradle
A piece of junk..., 02 Oct 2008
Bought this as Belkin appear to be reputable brand. Whilst not an expert, I am reasonably PC literate and have set up wireless networks (successfully) before. I installed it as per instructions. It went like a dream and I was on the internet in minutes. That night I switch off PC. Next day, switch on - no wireless connection. Try to open Belkin software and it tells me to connect the adapter 1st - it is already connected! No matter what, software won't open and cannot get a connection. Tried various things, including uninstalling and starting from scratch, but no joy. It's going back for a refund tomorrow.
be sure ur wireless router is matched (G+ or above), 10 Sep 2008
ive used it for around a week, ive been looked through all the reviews before i placed this order, because it seems didnt work for many buyers. But i still want to have a go, as my friend suggest me to buy one of their product. But i feel very impressed on this adapter,it hasnt got any problems from the day i received. Im using windows XP,but im not sure is it work on vista. The connection get on well, easy install, good design.
One problem is the standard of my wireless router (G),ive checked the transfer rate is up to 54mbits/sec, but im so sure if i get a G+ wireless rounter, it must go up to 125. Recommand to buy.
Belkin G+ Wireless Adapter, 24 Jul 2008
Adapter worked for a week with no problems (apart from sometimes getting a very weak signal from a wireless router attached to a PC 10 metres away in a downstairs room) and then died. The green LED would not light up. I contacted Belkin who told me to change some settings. This didn't work. I re-installed the software. This didn't work so I downloaded new drivers from Belkin website. Still no luck. I returned the adapter to Belkin who sent me a new one free of charge as part of their lifetime warranty. It worked for 1 hour but when I went to use it several hours later it had died again - no green LED. Re-installed software - still no life. Attached it to a different PC - still no life.
I wouldn't recommend this device. It may be cheap but spend more money and get a decent adapter.
Great!,IF you DON`T mind the sheer hassle of repairing it each time you want to go online!, 26 May 2008
This was my 1st(of 2)BELKIN usb adapters i purchased for my 2 pc`s,Both running XP.
whilst the software DID install fine,i was initally shocked at the SHODDY manufacture of the device,it`s NOT a SNUG fit in ANY usb port,as you`d expect from a usb device, but reminded me of the Old(and i mean OLD!)Days of the ZX81 and it`s RAM pack add-on,which would wobble like mad!
Anywho,was INITALLY impressed,it found the signal,was getting 54mbps/Very good strength.great........
HOWEVER!,next time(and in fact nearly EVERYTIME since then?)when i boot Pc up from scratch?the unit appears DEAD! the green LED?LIFELESS,yet the software appears to be,at least telling it to scan!
i have had to.unplug+reconnect unit and/or get windows to run a repair file, just to connect!
tried..........well everything, replaced USELESS cradle with a gold plated! usb extension lead, went to belkins tech.support site, downloaded LATEST DRIVERS.problems persisted!uninstalled and reinstalled product.....still NO JOY!
so?Emailed Belkin,explained situ.in depth!
1st reply?we understand you are looking for drivers...etc(errrr?NO! i`m looking for results!)
Emailed AGAIN.....2nd reply?try uninstalling and reinstalling!
GAHHHHHHHHH!!!
Def.the unit,as the one i bought for the 2nd Pc?runs like a dream!
gonna give it 2 stars,as i DO get a great signal,but...........?i AM replacing this product with something of a Higher std.
Will NOT be buying from belkin AGAIN!
Do not buy Belkin!!!!!!!!, 06 May 2008
My advice for people looking to use a wireless network, do not buy Belkin, i've read many reviews on the adapters in particular and i couldn't agree more with what most have said. I am on my second wireless adapter now after the first one died recently, this second one is still useless to a point where i've regretted wasting my money on it, i should've gone for another brand, something that won't crash my pc everytime i try and look at something online or everytime i download some music or look at Google Earth. Even after trying the latest drivers for the damn thing or reinstalling the software it still crashes my pc, luckily i can reconnect after my pc boots up and hence i'm managing to type this review now.
Basically do not buy this useless piece of junk if you want a stress free wireless internet connection, go for something a little more expensive that is easier to set up and does not crash your pc, enough said i think.

Customer Reviews

User friendly, 29 Jul 2008

I'm afraid some reviewers have missed the point with this device, ok, if you can reach the switches easily, then that isn't a problem, but for so many of us having all the wiring, sockets etc tucked out of the way like mine, then this is a godsend!
