Excellent bit of kit, 12 Jul 2008
I bought one of these to install in my 2005 Nissan X-trail to replace the stock stereo (CY690), principally because I was fed up of the poor reception of the FM transmitter I bought to play mp3's from my Sandisk E280 mp3 player. I figured, why not get bluetooth capability as well as the ability to plug in the mp3 player directly via a 3.5mm jack. But what I also wanted was to retain the functionality of the stock steering wheel audio control stalk and the voiceover audio from the built-in satnav.
Am not disappointed. The order turned up the next day from Dynamic Sound Ltd. It comes with facia, 3.5mm jack lead (which is not very good quality), a set of leads that convert from ISO to the Sony specific input socket. I had to buy an expensive (nearly half the price of the stereo) ICT 29-644 converter lead and Sony Remote Adaptor (ICT 29-008) from http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk to interface with the Nissan specific connectors (they also do other manufacturer adaptor cables as well). It worked first time (just make sure you also plug the aerial in otherwise the BT2600 will just sit there and do nothing) AND I have full control from the steering wheel AND the satnav voice-over mutes the audio when it's talking.
The sound quality of audio play back is very good, much better than the stock Nissan stereo. Linking my phone in was childs play (once I'd read the manual). I have a Motorola Razr v3i which has excellent voice recognition, so you can voice dial at the push of a button. The BT2600 mutes the audio, you make your call, and when you hang up it unmutes the audio. Superb! I have yet to try making a call whilst driving, so I'll edit this once I've done it (so I can confirm whether the sound quality is any good).
I have also yet to try the CD and mp3 from CD functionality, but since I have an mp3 player anyway, I'm not too fussed about it.
I was sceptical about the adaptor cables retaining the satnav voiceover (which I don't use anyway), but much to my surprise, it works! The satnav voiceover comes out of the front passenger side speaker and the music audio is partially muted, which is exactly the same effect as with the stock Nissan stereo. Bonus!
So all in all, I'm very very happy with it.
Great but a Little Flawed, 10 Jul 2008
A2DP is definitely the future for car audio and MP3s. No more trailing wires to your Ipod and no dodgy FM transmitter sound.
This way you use your phone as a true one-stop media device. I have movies, MP3s and sat-nav on my N95 and they all route through the car speakers (via this head unit and bluetooth AD2P) in perfect stereo.
The problem is the phone handsfree - it has very poor echo cancellation so people will struggle to hear you at speed. I have to stop to take important calls and switch the engine off (which kind of defeats the object). All Sony needed to do was include a separate microphone you could connect. Worse the in-built microphone is behind the fascia.
Don't get me wrong though this is worth it just for the MP3s via bluetooth.
Get one of these and flog your Ipod today!!!

This is a review about the 2008 version of the already popular bt2500.
I bought this from new image hifi who sent it quickly and well packed. The free gift was missing but they have promised to send one on.
The item comes with a harness ( one into two) one for the speakers and one for the power cables and an arial adaptor. I have an audi a2. Plug the exisiting inputs in and away you go. Blooth tooth works a treat ( both music streaming and phone calls/answer) and the stereo sounds great. One can control the phone re music and calling via the headunit. Even voice activation works.
Advantages over previous model i am aware of-1. this has pre-amp outs but i did not need these and one can attach a steering column/ joy stick as well as ipod via a special module to buy separately.
best wishes

Looks great, 15 Aug 2008
Very clever product, but the Bluetooth connection can be a little unstable and the product is easily switched on in transit as there is no "lock" mode.
Quite the best, 25 Jul 2008
I have two other travel speakers, Creative and Sony, but this beats both hands down. Sleek, sexy and the best sound for its size. What I wanted to do was to be able to play my MP3 player wirelessly through this. After searching high and low for a Bluetooth adapter, buying three in the process, I finally found one. Made by a company named Enjoy, the tiny blutooth adapter paired with the Linx and the two together is an absolute marvel. The ones that I tried but wouldn't pair were the Jabra and the Jaybird.
Decent - just about worth £30, 14 Jun 2008
I bought this as I wanted something portable for use in the garden and bathroom.
For £30, it's just about worth it .... mainly for the convenience and portability it offers as the sound quality is fairly average.
Was a doddle to set up with my phone, which is a Sony W950i so supports A2DP and connects up easy as pie.
Far more hassle getting it working with my computer. XP doesn't support A2DP natively so you'll need to install alternate bluetooth software in order to get it working (and your dongle needs to be a Widcomm based one or you've had it). Got it going eventually but the setup was far from straightforward.
Having said all that, once it is working it does what it says on the tin and it looks pretty smart in the bathroom.
The built in rechargeable battery is a definite plus and it may well come in handy on holiday as a portable speaker to attach to my media player.
Sound quality is pretty average. Very little bass and overall I'd give it about 5/10 on this front but then it was never going to blow your head off with 2x2w output I suppose.
Controls on the device are limited and a wee bit fiddly but OK once you get the hang of them.
Overall, as long as you don't expect miracles on the sound quality front, it's probably just about worth the money. I wouldn't buy it at the £50 it was originally priced at though.
Tiny, loud, brilliant!, 29 May 2008
As small as a Red Bull can, louder than you would ever expect and even a slight bit of base rather than that usual tinny sound.
Ideal for a holiday with mates. Anyone can connect it to their phone via bluetooth or 3.5mm jack and away you go - within a minute.
For £30 this is an absolute bargain!

Solid and reliable, 30 Aug 2008
I upgraded my original cassette/radio for one of these, and I'm not disappointed. I specifically wanted a volume dial to turn, which is fairly positive, though could be a bit heavier... Its nice to look at too, bright blue light around the volume and red illumination for the other buttons.
It has a random function, which is handy for my mp3 cds, though one complaint I do have is that the Previous and Next (<< + >>) buttons, do not do random, they move to the next song number. I feel this could easily be improved. Clear sound, with no cd skipping so far for me, and I have been down some fairly rough tracks.
Its the quality you expect from Pioneer, in a stylish, subtle package. I don't like over the top chrome and LEDs and racing stripes... or whatever they have on Headunits now. Simple, clean and easy to navigate and use is what I want and this performs wonderfully. If you are after a decent replacement, and not wanting the cost to spiral ridiculously, then I can recommend this above the flood of other units.

MEGA!!!!!!!, 24 May 2008
This product is so good. the sound is brill!!!! Very good range. very good battery life. it also looks very stylish. a must have item. would recommend to anyone.
Best you can buy for this sort of money..., 11 Jun 2008
Fantastic, clear sound, very responsive with lovely deep bass tones which for the type of music I listen to (classic rock) has made my sub totally obsolete and freed up a lot of boot space!
I dare say there are better 6X9s on the market, but certainly not for this sort of money.
Closest I got to these on the high street was the 280w versions of the same speakers, which were £44.99 and £49.99 at Motorworld and Halfords respectively! can't even find them this cheap seccond hand!!
Having had JVC, Kenwood and SPLx 6x9s in the same price range previously, I have to say these just blow them away, can't recommend them enough!

Get one of these and flog your Ipod today!!!
sony bt2600, 15 Mar 2008
This is a review about the 2008 version of the already popular bt2500.
I bought this from new image hifi who sent it quickly and well packed. The free gift was missing but they have promised to send one on.
The item comes with a harness ( one into two) one for the speakers and one for the power cables and an arial adaptor. I have an audi a2. Plug the exisiting inputs in and away you go. Blooth tooth works a treat ( both music streaming and phone calls/answer) and the stereo sounds great. One can control the phone re music and calling via the headunit. Even voice activation works.
Advantages over previous model i am aware of-1. this has pre-amp outs but i did not need these and one can attach a steering column/ joy stick as well as ipod via a special module to buy separately.
best wishes

amazing price for this stereo the sound is superb total control of ipod from headunit usb is on the back so no wires showing controls take a bit to get used to but when you do no downsides to this stereo
Great sound at very reasonable price, 27 Jul 2008
I had a set of Sony XSF 1724's in the front and felt that the sound was a bit light. I found these Sony XSF 1725's on amazon and at the price I thought they might be worth a punt in the back, especially as they were about half the price I paid for the 1724's. The sound is now very clear and has a good bass weight. I would not recommend 1 pair as your main bass drivers but 2 pairs are more than adequate.
Bargain Sound!, 10 Dec 2007
Well I actually bought these thinking that they would be ok for someone that wanted better sound than original on a bargain and wow did I get just that!
These speakers were an absolute doddle to fit with all screws, attachments, etc were included which was a bonus.
After fitting I thought I would test them out and they are really good. I think if you wired these upto an amp the sound would be even better too!
I was going to get the 3-way Sont ones but had read that having so many 'Ways' in such a small speaker would destoy the sound somewhat.
I would definately recommend these to anyone on a budget!

Excellent product !, 31 Jul 2008
Another great Pioneer product. If you want a good quality car cd player at a good price, buy this product. It sounds great, is easy to use and can even read mp3 cds. Recommended.
I would definately recommend these to anyone on a budget!
compatability , 09 Jul 2008
this is truly great easy set up works great bluetoothing with samsung yp 2 .

with the mains lead great to use at home and the batteries option is just as powerfull and quality would highly recomend to anyone
a small wonder that packs a punch, 05 Mar 2008
i was going on a holiday in a few months time and was looking for a wireless bluetooth speakers for my Samsung P2 to listen to my MP3s wherevere i go. i've searched thru Google, online stores and online review sites and found three. first, the Linx B-tube. tiny, only 2W but when i went to a store in London my P2 just wouldn't pair up or either the person serving me doesn't know how to operate. so that's gone. secondly, the Parrot Party speakers. online reviews have given it almost 5 out of 5. in paper the specs looks really good and i thought this is my holiday. downside: £75 is just too expensive for me. so, i went for Gear4's Balckbox mini. the big version is too big for me and just doesn't qualify for a nice holiday and "compactibility" (is that a word?) its 6W more than the Linx, cheaper than the Parrot Party and packs a punch espcially on small confined places like a small single room with your girlfriend maybe or inside your car, etc. really cool looking touch-sensitive buttons; just a slight touch (like the degree of touching an iPhone) for the volume Up & Down, Pause, On & Off Button which doubles as a "pairing button". upon turning on it "pairs" automatically but ofcourse you have to also set up the paring from your mobile phone and a bluetooth-enabled mp3 player like the brill P2. tried cranking the volume up to the max and the speaker does it's job really well with no distortion or "broken" speakers sound whatsoever. you can even upgrade the firmware (as the website sugest) for future updates. the only reason why it's a star less is coz of no bass boost/3d sound button or option but if you're looking for the perfect travel speakers with no wires then you got to have this baby. and oh..did i mentioned it lasts up to a whopping 8 hours on just 4 batteries (sold separately) and has a carry case to boot. 'nuff sed. go get one now!
Good product, 09 Jan 2008
I bought the Blackbox mini from Misco. The sound quality was better than I expected and it's really good being able to change songs using my iPod and not have to go to the speaker system to change songs. The bluetooth range seems ok for use in an average sized room. The connection does drop out every now and then causing minor playback issues, although I haven't used the speakers long enough to assess how much of a problem this is.
The LED lights flash every few seconds so they aren't practical for nightime use in the bedroom unless you want a disco. I sometimes listen to music to help me sleep, but I had to switch off the speakers due to the constant flashing.
In summary, a good set of speakers, but if you want perfection... look elsewhere.
absolute quality, 21 Dec 2007
Just got this gizmo, though sadly not from Amazon as they are 9 times out of 10 the best and more to the point the cheapest. Have to tell you that it is simply superb. Out of the box and within 2 minutes quality sound from a K800i. A must have!

Get one of these and flog your Ipod today!!!
sony bt2600, 15 Mar 2008

MEGA!!!!!!!, 24 May 2008
This product is so good. the sound is brill!!!! Very good range. very good battery life. it also looks very stylish. a must have item. would recommend to anyone.

Easy to install, and works with my iPod Touch!, 19 Oct 2008
This is the first head unit that I have purchased, and I got it for my first car (A T-Reg Corsa).
Firstly however, it was pretty easy to install - The only problem I had was getting the frame which is used to hold the unit when it is installed off the unit. (It is attached around it when it comes in the box). I got it off with a screwdriver, but realised afterwards that it can be done easily with tools which are supplied specifically for this job. Doh!
As I said, I have had no prior experience with installing these, but was happy to find that my Corsa had just one plug which went straight into the back of the unit; and one arial. I did have to purchase an adapter for the arial, but you can get these from any electronics or motoring supplier really for around £2.50.
Finally, the iPod connection is fantastic - although I wasn't sure that it would originally, I can confirm that it works with the Apple iPod Touch, with song titles, artists and everything working as expected. The navigation through your music is just like it is on the click-wheel iPods.
The sound is much, much better than the bog-standard tape/radio combo which came with the car 12 years ago! It really is fantastic!
Finally, the design of the product is great, and it feels pretty well made. The box that the fascia can be stored in when you lock your car up has a few foam pieces in it which stop it from bouncing around. My only small gripe with the product is that because the text on all the buttons lights up blue, it is sometimes a bit difficult to see what they say under certain light. It does look fantastic when it gets darker, however. It is fairly intuitive to use, and the manuals (All six of them - each in two languages) are very well laid out and easy to flick through.
I haven't tested the AUX-in capabilities of the unit.
Overall the product is really great, but I think because of the couple of very minor niggles, it just misses out on five stars.
Great, but flawed, 13 Apr 2008
I purchased this headunit mainly for the USB capabilities, to then find that they are vastly flawed.
For example, you take your USB stick, and upload some albums onto it. One folder for begins with the letter "S" and the other begins with the letter "V". If, two days later you want to upload an album beginning with "S" you'll be forgiven for thinking it is simple. For when you transfer the "S" folder over, this gets placed at the end of the list as the headunit sorts the folder list via time and date as opposed to character!
This means if wish to keep your folder-hierarchy in alphabetical order therefore making it easy to search your MP3s you have to transfer all the files over to your computer that are on the USB stick. Then add the one folder to this list, and re-transfer everything over...a very time consuming task if you are using an 8GB USB flash drive!
You can probably get around it by creating folders labelled A-Z, and then only re-transferring the artists that you are effecting into these folders, but you shouldn't have to!
It is such a shame, as it is a very beautiful unit, CD player works perfectly, radio is crystal clear, the multi-function wheel makes it easy to change radio station/tracks while you keep your eyes on the road, the USB load up time is great, and would in all respects be worth 4.5/5 or 5/5, but for the very obvious design flaw that they've let creep in I've had to knock off 2 stars.
