Thanks,
For the price, you can't go wrong with this laptop., 03 Nov 2008
I have owned this laptop for a year now. It's the best purchase in computing I have ever done.
It's sleek and feels very sturdy and nicely built, but not too small. The size of the screen is really good to watch movies and it's super clear too.I use it everywhere in my house thanks to the wi-fi connection to my broadband router.
It is very good value for money.
The only thing I'm disappointed about is not the laptop but having Windows Vista which makes it slower sometimes to run. I have had no problem what-so-ever with it, not like friends who have bought more expensive brands.
Will recommend fully for those of you who have a small budget!

the Acer Aspire 5315 has been a good product up untill now. I have owned this computer from new for just under a year. it is now not allowing me to download programmes from the internet or from cd/dvd. it is only allowing me to save certain things, and it is not the memory space cos there is still lots there. also it has just started not recognising dvds, even the ones which i have previously played through my laptop.
if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate them
Not Bad Laptop, 01 Aug 2008
I bought this laptop because of it's low price and its boast of 80GB. Only to discover it's much lower so it got sent back but asked for a replacement. That came swiftly enough but it had the same max 64GB. Then on the same day, after installing just one programme, I was forced to use the restore to factory settings utility as the laptop simply would not shut down - even closing the lid did not help it turn off so I had to wait for the battery to wear itself out. Thankfully once it was restored everything so far has been plain sailing, (thank God), and now I can say it's a great little machine.
It's light and not bad looking. I do have a problem with the amount of software already on it - a little too much for my liking especially as many of them seem to be games and stuff many people probably already got or can easily get like the dvd facility. Then there are the trial versions of products like norton and office 2007 which I find very annoying because I know I can't afford them even if I wanted them but they suck you into using it, (if you're not careful), knowing it can be whisked away when the time is up. Uninstall them and download free avg and spybot for equally good security and buy 'Ability Office Business' for a cheaper alternative office software.
If you don't like Vista, (it could be the spec hungry demands of Vista when after installing that one programme caused the stalling at shut down who knows), loading up Ubuntu may be an anwser.
This product is great for lightweight ordinary things like emailing, office work etc. It is a great machine and if it wasn't for the initial problems I would had easily given it five stars.

1. The laptop looks great it is a bit big but if you want a 17" laptop dont moan!
2. You cant find a better laptop for a better price anywhere else I know this as I spent 3 weeks looking
4. The HD DVD drive is a plus don't moan that its not blueray
THE CONS
1. I had to get Amazon to resend me a new one as Acer have given Amazon a lemon to sell! Thats not Amazons Fault thats Acers fault.
2. This is the first thng I have ever got from Amazon and they have treated me well - 10/10 FOR AMAZON & 5/10 FOR ACER (so far..)
3. Vista comes preinstalled so no disks for back up which sucks
Final thought is that Acer have given us a cheap high spec laptop I cant complain
Try and buy up the remaining HD DVD'S for cheap and your on to a winner.
I just got Peter Jacksons The frightners for £2.99 HMV on a clear out
Must be a good deal. Who cares about the format war there are 10's of thousands of these HD DVD's sold they will be around for a wee while longer me thinks..
Great Bang For your Buck, 17 Oct 2008
I am a great believer in Acer laptops (reptresenting good levels of product & features with a reasonable price tag) and this item is the third one bought into the family. This was bought recently for my daughter who has just started university. One of my previous Acers developed a problem on month 11. It was promptly repaired to my ongoing satisfaction via the laptop supplier I aquired it from - not direct from Acer - one of the e-suppliers. However with this unit it arrived with a defective LCD screen, OK you may say this should not happen but it did. Now i bought this direct from Amazon partly due to the fact that Amazon pricing is in line with the best pricing available from the main stream e-suppliers and also due to the good user feedback reports about Amazons returns policy. I can only express my true amazement and as to how effective the amazon policy is in practice. I reported the defect at 13.00 hours on 13th October by 11.30 hours on the 14th October bthe replacement unit arrived at my house. Later that day the defective unit was collected from my house via Dhl. I defy anybody to meet that service level. regarding the unit itself other reviewers have captured how good it is in performance obviously we have limitted user history to advise on but its a great unit as far as we have seen. So if potential buyers are scared off with the possibility of recieving defective Acer products I can vouch for the remedy available if procured via Amazon direct.Acer Aspire 7720G Notebook Laptop, Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz, 17" TFT, 2048MB RAM, 2x160GB Hard-drive, DVD±RW with HD Capability, GeForce 8400M Graphics, Integ Webcam, WiFi, Vista Home Premium
Fantastic desktop replacement, 03 Oct 2008
I recently returned a HP AMD laptop to Dixons, this is far superior in every way. The graphics are amazing in quality, and highly fluid on 3d. Its monsterously fast, and I would recommend to anyone. Buy one.
Are these reviews honest and above board?, 01 Oct 2008
I am concerned about the veracity of these reviews. Two of the reviews awarding the highest rating for the Acer 7720G are almost identical. In the reviews by the Reverend Gareth Bowen of London and Adam Guerin of Bath(ish), both choose to spell 'colour' and 'Theatre' in the American fashion and both are currently into their fourth laptop. Perhaps both of the above persons, if they actually exist, work for Acer. Whatever the connection these reviews are unreliable, to say the least, and should Amazon choose to keep both on their website, it could be construed as misrepresentation by the Seller or his Agent.
I would advise Amazon to remove the dubious articles forthwith. Once they are removed this 'review' can also be removed as I am currently awarding a low star rating to try to even things up a bit.
Let the Buyer beware.
Acer support is terrible, 29 Sep 2008
Acer tech support has got to be the worst i have EVER experienced. They are rude, send machines back with faults they never had in the first place and will take for ever to fix faults. I would NEVER recommend anyone to buy ANY Acer equipment!

great laptop, 08 Nov 2008
i brought this laptop about a week ago and i am very impressed with it so far.
the built in radeon hd 3470 graphics card provides very good game and movie graphics, combine this with the dual core 2ghz cpu's which puch out 4ghz of power and the 4gig of ram in this beast you get what you pay for.
the battery life is well over 2 hours on a full charge providing you are running the machine on the balenced power plan.
the only annoying thing i found with this machine was when i first set it up the touch sensitive media controll's that run along the right side of the keyboard are very easy to trip accidently which promts the media player to open every time but this is easily fixed by changing the setting in the controll pannel so there not as sensitive.
the built in speakers and subwoofer, (yes it has a subwoofer on the bottom of it) provide a decent level of sound and pretty sound good quality aswell.
also the built in webcam is of suprisingly good quality and has good resolution for a built in.
over all this laptop is very good and well worth the money. i hope this review has been helpful to anyone considering this machine.

Acer Aspire 5920G, 14 Nov 2008
Bought 2 of these as christmas gifts and like the previous review says, the graphics card isn't as advertised.
Apart from that, it's a great piece of kit.
My son plays online and to test it out i loaded World of Warcraft on it and had no problems at all, in fact it seems to look a bit better on a PC than it does on my Apple Mac.
This is a great buy for anyone with a "lowish" budget.
Everything else is as advertised, 4GB Ram, 250GB HDD, Blue-ray player and even a webcam. You won't find a better spec at this price.
Beware Spec is not quite as listed !!!, 12 Nov 2008
This is a very good value laptop for the money with great spec for the price, however it has been listed here as having a ATI mobility HD 3650-512mb graphic card, which is a mid range card well capable of gaming but does in fact have a ATI mobility HD 3470-256mb, which is a lower class card & isn't really capable for gaming at descent frame rates. So if gaming is not your thing this is a very good spec laptop but if you were purchasing this for gaming with the illusion that it has the HD 3650, like I did & had to return for a refund, look elsewhere at something like the Acer Aspire 6920G which does have the HD 3650 installed.

Thanks,
For the price, you can't go wrong with this laptop., 03 Nov 2008
Its ok, 28 Sep 2008
the Acer Aspire 5315 has been a good product up untill now.
This review should help, 27 Oct 2008
So if gaming is not your thing this is a very good spec laptop but if you were purchasing this for gaming with the illusion that it has the HD 3650, like I did & had to return for a refund, look elsewhere at something like the Acer Aspire 6920G which does have the HD 3650 installed.
i love it., 21 Aug 2008
so im writing this to you on this very laptop. Ive had it about 2 months and i must say im very pleased with it. acer have put alot of thought into this laptop and it shows. its most usefull features are probably the media console which looks really cool! the finger print reader and the hotkeys along the right hand side of the key board. the speakers are amazing for a laptop and you can do pretty much anything you need to do very comftabley. i like to multitask and so this laptop comes with some great spec to allow me to do so. 4gb of ram is more than enough and the GPU (Nvidia GForce 9500MGS - 512 MB+) is excellent. ive been able to play games on this laptop with the settings at max. everythign about this laptop is great. i can think of only two draw backs and that would be that the glassy finish on the back pick up alot of fingerprints and greese marks from day to day handling and that i weighs a fair bit for a laptop but it is still good for a 16 inch and a brilliant one at that.
Great Laptop, 18 Jul 2008
After my desktop pc ran into problems including being fried during a lightning strike, i decided to opt for a lap top. I didn't by this from Amazon but a shop on the high street though.
I'm amazed, the speed and specs of this laptop is higher specs than my old (desktop bought just over a year ago at a higher price) pc, including double the amount of RAM. Decent hard-drive size as well.
Extremely quiet, and very smooth with most aplication tried so far.
Swanky blue led lights all over the place and posh touch screen volume and media controls (you can still adjust the system through windows as well)
Lovely touches with features, i had 2 monitors hooked up to this thing running fine, you an hook up at least 3 monitors/tv (hdmi connection) to take the signal and even has an option to turn off the laptop screen and use the external monitor instead.
The down sides i would say is getting used to the keypad layout compared to the normal desktop type (if your used to that full size + number pad) and the keys can feel a bit spongey at times but still feels like a decent build quality, slight bummer with lack of blue-ray support also, but doesn't affect myself yet.
I'd recomend this laptop to anyone. You can't really go wrong at this price.
Fantastic!!!!!, 15 Jul 2008
Wow! What a fabulous machine! It's quick, good looking, very well made, comes with finger print ID and touch pad control.
This is by far the best notebook I have owned.

I am totally amazed at this laptop. As soon as I pressed the start up button it only took approx.60 secs to ready itself to load up the homepage..It is very fast in loading pages even in Internet Explorer,it is even faster with FireFox.There are a few items of software loaded in the system if you want them but they are easy to uninstall if you do not want them. There is a finger print recognition strip on the touch pad.I found this very confusing at first ,but you have to read through the walk through to try to under stand it.I found that it would take several attempts to open the settings page and then found it could not delete my initial set up to open the settings page and it still would not recognize my fingerprint on several attemps. You have to make sure that your finger is square on the bar to set the settings. My advise is not to set it up until you have completly read and understood the instructions, other than that this laptop is the best that I have come across,it plays games that other laptops struggle with.Iloaded up Tombraider Anniversary and had know trouble at all in playing it.The graphics are really really good.It has dolby home theatre surround sound and the output is incredible. There is Acer arcade which is operated from the touch panel on the side of the key board. This is where you can operate your music, pictures and videos, rather like windows media centre, but much better. All in all this is agreat machine and it has that WOW factor..

bad luck?, 12 Nov 2008
was very happy with it in all respects. actually bought it from e-buyer and returned it today for full refund due to the keyboard feezing after three weeks, apparently due to a hardare problem. now going to buy same acer aspire 5315 model from amazon as it happens to be £10 cheaper and I know amazon have a good customer service policy too.

A beautiful machine, 31 Aug 2008
I've pondered over several laptops for a while, tried to wait for the redesigns etc and finally cracked. And I'm glad i did. This machine is beautiful both in appearence and running.
-Firstly, the build quality is incredible - no flimsy screen or creaky hinges and the finish is great.
-Secondly, it's very light and thin considering it's a 15.4 incher and its power.
-Thirdly i definitely prefer OSX to Vista, having plenty of experience with Vista. OSX trades on the minimalistic look, and it feels much more comfortable than the cluttered apprearence of Vista. Also everything feels snappy and runs really nicely. The only problems i have encountered with software is the sudden, unprompted closure of imovie twice (which may be to do with problems with my connected camcorder).
Other things: The multi touch (although gimicky) makes navigation great without a mouse, the speakers and display are incredible (although the blacks aren't incredible, though are good) , and the small touches, such as the throbbing light whilst it's sleeping just convince you of the laptop's top quality.
Negatives - Not many mac-games, software compatibility issues... erm that's it!
Awesome, 21 Apr 2008
Very nice.
I only got it on friday but my god is OSX ever better than Windows.
The battery life runs about 3.5 to 4 hours, and when you close the lid it goes in and out of sleep mode quickly and without errors, very nice.
The keyboard put me off at first (tiny return key) but it only takes an hour to get used to it and then it comes into it's own, very good keyboard indeed, a breeze to use a great size, and the light sensitive backlighting is a stroke of classy genius.
One of the main reasons I went for a MAC is the last powerful laptop I got was a Rock Pegasus TI99 2.0 GHz, back in 2004 and the fan noise from it was unbearable. I want a machine I can take into an office, or work away on while my wife watches a bit of telly without having to leave the room, and with MAC having such tight control over their own hardware I figured this would be better built. Wasn't wrong, it's very, very quiet, and it runs very cool even if you're multitasking quite heavily. Interestingly, the only time it's gotten hot was last night, when I installed the Parallels VM and got Windows XP installed. OK, it's two OS's running simultaneously though I wonder how much of it was just XP's bloaty old fault? I'll do an Ubuntu VM as well and see!
MAC OS X is just fantastic, never used it before and it was a bit confusing at first, but after a couple of hours everything just falls under your fingertips exactly as you would want it to, and it is blindingly fast. It could be having two gigs of memory but there was virtually no paging happening, everything just blinks into view, and the eye candy is great, it just looks and feels super sweet to use. It doesn't get in your way in the slightest. The whole OS just seems to be designed to get you working quickly and efficiently while it retreats discreetly into the background like a good waiter!
Oh, and the multi-touch touchpad is a stroke of genius, not least because you can right click one handed (something which kept me away from MACs for years). You just tap two fingers together on the pad and a context sensitive menu pops up. It works beautifully.
And the wi-fi is very fast, it's twice as fast downloading as my other two laptops (The Rock, and a Thinkpad X31) I downloaded a 720MB image file for Kubuntu in under half an hour, no sweat, over my 8Mb connection.
I can't think of any cons, it's just a great machine, with a lot of thought and attention put into it. I know it's a few hundred quid more than an equivalent Windows specced machine, but it's the little things that just set it apart, and make for a really pleasant user experience, far better than any windows box I've ever had. It Just Works, is an apt motto.
As an aside, I got this because I didn't want to buy a new machine with a strong spec, and then have Vista smother it with it's enormous code base. I was going to get a 600 quid laptop and install Ubuntu, but I just didn't like the idea of kludging around getting the new hardware to work. I have an ultraportable that also needs replacing, and I'll get an Asus eee pc for that.
Oh, and the reason it gets four stars? It's not really the laptop, it's a swipe at Mac themselves, their product lines seem to have been designed by an evil scientist. I ended up spending far more than I really wanted to, because the normal Macbook and the Air both have little features missing that would otherwise have had me buying them instead, and saving myself about 300 quid. Bottom line, you want multi-touch, backlit keyboard (shallow of me I know, but before you cast stones tell me why you don't have a pink laptop boys.... uh huh, you see my point) good connectivity, a Matte screen that doesn't reflect everything behind you, and a deicated graphics chip, then you HAVE to get this, which is a shame as I was very close to getting the Air....
Still, you pays your money, I've paid mine, and I am in love with this damn thing more than any other system I've owned.
Great machine, with reservations!, 11 Apr 2008
Firstly, where I'm coming from: I'm an IT administrator, looking after a heap of Windows servers, LINUX boxes & 40-50 'personal' machines, all these Windows (XP & Vista) running on a pretty large range of hardware. I also do photography & graphic design so use a fair few 'design & editing' packages. The reason for the launch into Mac-land is I have become bored with Windows & intrigued by Mac since it finally came up with a functioning operating system (UNIX). There's also the chance that if these things are as pleasant & easy to use as Apple claim, I could then run them out company-wide & have happy users (always something to aim for for a stress-free life!). So I got one...
The hardware: Excellent - a masterpiece of ergonomics. Great screen, great battery life, quick enough for a 'heavy user', and given these features/performance, pretty light. Very pleasant keyboard, excellent touchpad. Haven't found a single thing I'd change!
The software: Hmm. Very nice to use, which it would be, being (like) Gnome running on X11. But there are a couple of critical problems: one is that the system isn't particularly stable, at least not compared to the more recent versions of Windows. I'm pretty sure it's a program I'm using that's causing it rather than a hardware failure (wrong type of crash!), but it's taking out the OS too: this should never happen. The other was (!) a wireless problem, but - as far as I can tell - this has now been fixed due to a spate of firmware updates as I haven't had a problem in a couple of months.
So - aside from Leopard seeming to be not quite ready yet (I still get ocassional lock-ups which require an 'archive and reinstall' - incredible that this is needed really, but Apple have the system down to an art so it's quite painless), it's a good machine to use. My office machine (Mac Pro) has no stability problems, so I'm going to assume the laptop's upsets are 'user error', or rather 'user expecting more oomph than is available' problems so probably not applicable to other users...
I'd buy another, so overall things must be good!

bad luck?, 12 Nov 2008
was very happy with it in all respects. actually bought it from e-buyer and returned it today for full refund due to the keyboard feezing after three weeks, apparently due to a hardare problem. now going to buy same acer aspire 5315 model from amazon as it happens to be £10 cheaper and I know amazon have a good customer service policy too.

Its ok, 28 Sep 2008
the Acer Aspire 5315 has been a good product up untill now.
This review should help, 27 Oct 2008
So if gaming is not your thing this is a very good spec laptop but if you were purchasing this for gaming with the illusion that it has the HD 3650, like I did & had to return for a refund, look elsewhere at something like the Acer Aspire 6920G which does have the HD 3650 installed.
i love it., 21 Aug 2008
so im writing this to you on this very laptop.
