Customer Reviews
Brilliant Camera, 22 Oct 2008
What can I say? This is an amazing camera and a brilliant price. It takes wonderful photos and is very simple to use. I can't think of any downsides to it, it is just amazing!
Fuji S5700, 15 Oct 2008
Fuji FinePix S5700 Digital Camera - Black (7.0MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 2.5" LCD
This camera has been a joy to use; it goes everywhere with me and has taken thousands of photograghs to complete a catalogue of high quality images which can be very useful in my work. I also bought a media card and reader to complete the package and would recommend this as you will soon use up the memory in the camera.
It is excellent in low light conditions. I have owned this camera for about a year and still think it is very good value for money. Well Done Fuji!
I agree - a great mid-sized camera, 13 Oct 2008
I can only agree with the review above - I wanted to upgrade my little digital camera with something a bit more interesting, but as with the reviewer above could not justify a digital SLR. So this is great, especially for the price. Plenty of space on a 1GB card, I haven't used the software that came with it, but probably will when I get a few mins to try. The zoom is great, there are lots of auto & manual features I haven't tried yet, the stabilisation feature works well (all my pics are sharp even though I am a bit shaky!), there is a really good B&W option and the video function works well. I got a case for it from Wilkos for about £3, it's a shame it didn't come with something cheap & cheerful, but then it's always out being used anyway so maybe that is why!
Superb Value for Money, 31 Jul 2008
This little camera is fantastic value.
The optical zoom is easy to use and extremely good. In general it is a very simple to get to grips with and take great shots. My needs were simple I wanted a camera that I could take good quality pictures yet I could not justify spending a fortune on a true SLR camera. This little fuji ticks all the boxes.
You can use it in automatic mode or of course in manual as well as stages in between. It is less bulky than the SLR camera. I thought that I could always get a snap using my phone camera but wanted something that I could take out specifically to take quality shots. What I can say it is the best camera I have owned, even comparing it to my Nikon F50 35mm which I adore. The S5700 is worth every penny.
In general you do not need to spend a fortune on the SD card I bought a 1GB and download all my images after each excursion. I have never come close to filling the memory and I use it on its maximum setting for detail. I seem to singing this little fuji's praises. Well it is good.
In terms of the software it comes with it is OK but I tend not to use. I merely mention this and it does not detract from the camera or its usage in the field or in your home studio e.g. your PC.

great camera, 14 Oct 2008
had this 3 months now and i am very pleased with it.
adjustable screen is fantastic making it very easy to get low angle shots or shots with the camera held above your head.
15x zoom is great and super stable in your hand and it will zoom up to 36x although this is digital zoom but at 9mp its still gets a reasonable shot for that odd distant picture.
shutter speeds are quick and there is no lag from pressing the button to taking the shot.
have found myself using the auto shoot mode quite a lot as it always takes a great picture (in well lit conditions)and in manual mode its a dream to use and i do like the thumbwheel control method. once your used to it you never need to look at what your doing it just becomes so intuitive.
overall a well specced bridge camera with superb pictures and all the modern features you need and plenty for the techy types as well.
Not great and sent mine back!, 01 Oct 2008
I am a fan of sony products and recently bought this model after getting hassled from my wife to buy one, as her sister had the older model which did seem to work very well. I liked the look of it and the multi face detection aspect really attracted me to it. I researched and opted for the DSC-H50 but i was really dissapointed. It's not been sent back!
My main gripe is that i can't get a good photo every time, which i could most of the time on my other camera. I was continuously seeing 'processing' on screen as the camera tried to process tha large 9MB jpeg images, so rapid shots were not an option. Whilst the images appeared vibrant on the lovely viewer on the back of the camera, once exported to my computer for printing, i quickly found them to be far less vibrant. The actual image quality differed once exported and it gave false impression due to the bright lcd viewer. It's not my PC as i'm a web designer and my screen is tip top with quality graphics card. If i compared photo's from my old sony to this one in photoshop, there is no question, the older model is far superior.
Yes, the gimmicky smile detection feature is quite smart, but overall i was unhappy with the purchase. Images are too dark, photo's taken inside give off an orange colour to the photo's which is most odd and that's using easy shoot or the other options. I can't get the flash to work when i want it to. :-(
Not for me though and personally, i think there are better cameras out there.
Superb Buy, 07 Aug 2008
this is the first review I have ever written and this is because this camera is great. Worked within seconds and having two young children we were always missing the best shot. This camera solved our problem as we are able to catch them at the right moment with the multiple shot mode and the quick start. Have only had it for a couple of months upgrading from a previous sony and we are so glad we did. I have not found it wanting in any area and well worth the money
Sony Dsc H50, 28 Jul 2008
Great camera and the zoom you would not believe,so many settings takes time to sort them all out, battery life is not the best but only on the 3rd charge i will get a second and it has to be sony camera will not work other makes. Very happy i got this camera. Amazon service and delivery right on the mark.
Cheap and cheerful, 15 Jul 2008
Pros:
- great tilting screen;
- lightweight;
- quick focusing and 15x optical zoom;
- menus are easy to use;
- impressive battery life;
- you can stick your Sony Ericsson mobile's memory stick into the camera with an adapter;
- good quality images, sharp, colourful and bright ok for the price range;
- SteadyShot that greatly reduces shake at high zoom;
- the Movie mode records video of better quality than my 2 year old camcorder!
Cons:
- THAT wheel dial - it's impossible to use, inconsistent and every other reviewer on the web hates it too - Sony please change this asap;
- "feels" a bit fragile, robustness ok but materials don't look very strong; give the kids your old one;
- doesn't come with an HDMI cable - which is Sony proprietary and VERY expensive;
- if you want to buy a filter to protect the lens, again Sony proprietary and VERY expensive;
- 9MP and 15x zoom is not the highest you can get for this price;
- the corner distortion is massive - big blur zones near the four corners at wide zoom, this is normal for any 15x zoom lens but quite noticeable nonetheless - you need to stick your subjects in the center of each image.

Product Description
Nikon is proud to announce the arrival of the Coolpix P80, one of the most compact cameras in its category. Built to satisfy the needs of camera enthusiasts and family photographers alike, the Coolpix P80 comes with a 10-megapixel CCD sensor and a Nikkor 18x zoom for wide angle photography, as well as a lens construction including 4 aspheric lenses, enabling you to focus more acutely without altering the colour and format of your subjects. The Coolpix P80 is equipped with a mechanical vibration reduction (VR) system to ensure steady and still shots by compensating for camera movement, and 3-Incamera technology made up of face-priority AF, red-eye correction and D-lighting, guaranteeing quality images no matter what the conditions. Face-priority AF automatically finds and focuses on faces within a frame, providing faster and sharper results; red-eye correction automatically detects and corrects red eyes, a common problem that occurs in flash photography; and D-Lighting compensates for excessive backlighting or insufficient flash in images. The Coolpix P80 also has a light sensitivity range of up to 6400 ISO in 3-megapixel mode, so you can capture photos in lower lighting conditions. Nikon has incorporated all its user-friendly innovations into the Coolpix P80, making taking photos easier and more intuitive.

Just the Thing for a Quick Trip to Europe!, 05 Nov 2008
I like this camera!
I just returned from a three-week trip to Italy, Holland, and London, and I found my Nikon P80 to be easy to manage, after several readings of the manual. Not too small, the P80 fits comfortably into my hands and does not wobble as the smaller cameras tend to do. Although I do miss taking splendid photos with my 1974 Rollei SLR with the three lenses and polarizer, I do not miss the weight, the limitations of rolls of film, and the encumbrances of all the accompanying paraphernalia.
I especially like the P80 because it is inconspicuous, and one can get candid shots of street life without being intrusive. The easily managed diopter allowed me to use the viewfinder without my glasses. The monitor made it easy to view photos quickly; and the battery charger worked splendidly (I took two Nikon batteries, and charged one every night.). I was also pleasantly surprised at the macro feature which allowed me to copy family photos from my brother-in-law's album, which were taken in the 1940s and '50s.
As other reviewers have suggested, reading the manual is indispensable, but one ought not to be tied to it. For instance, I discovered that in the northern latitudes with their bright autumn light, so beloved by the Dutch painters, the "sunset" setting worked better than the automatic, or even the plain "landscape" settings (I didn't care much for the automatic setting which tended to over-expose the pictures). I also experimented using the shutter and aperture priorities; took night pictures that were eventually successful, and discovered the video option, getting some fantastic shots of the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace (As I discovered when I downloaded the photos onto my computer--a painless process--the sound of the guards' commands and their marching feet, as well as the clip-clop of the horses' hooves, comes through loud and clear. Unfortunately, so does the yak-yak of the surrounding tourists!). Not knowing how much memory I would be using, I took two 4G memory cards and shot 1800 pictures and 31 short videos, which improved remarkably during the second week, as I was getting used to the intricacies of the camera (and was recovering from jet-lag). As a result, I have a thorough documentation of my trip, which I wouldn't have gotten with a cumbersome SLR.
Although for the next trip, which I shall take by myself and take my time, I might invest in a real DSLR (with a polarizing lens), the Nikon P80 was perfect for what proved to be whirlwind tour of Europe. And any lapses in color or light and shadow, I'll compensate for for with my Adobe CS3.
What have i bought?, 01 Oct 2008
I would not normally buy anything as being a new product-camera, hi-fi, car etc, i normally wait until any problems have been re-designed and go for a later version. I wish i had stuck to this philosophy with this camera. I bought it on the basis of its new supersensor which Nikon described as giving superlative results and also to take photos of white eagles in Norway using the long zoom. The zoom is fine. What is not acceptable is the amount of noise even at iso 100, it is unacceptable, other much cheaper compacts from Olympus (SP350) produce outstanding results much better than this. The macro facility is a joke, it does not focus at all in some cases. I cant use the flash with aperture priority unless i reset the cameras settings to factory settings. The lens cap is too loose fittting-i have already lost it, there is a cord to tie it onto the camera with but this just gets in the way. There is excessive curvature of the horizon with this lens-something that compacts seem to produce. But most disappointing is the noise levels and for that i would describe this camera as not even being fit for purpose. This camera is (expensive)rubbish not even worth one star, and being my first Nikon camera it will also be my last. Avoid.
Top digital compact camera!, 23 Sep 2008
I use this camera every day - I go nowhere without it.
As a pro photographer, I started using compact cameras two years ago, when I got tired of hauling heavy pro equipment around with me while on vacation.
My first compact cameras - the Nikon S-10 and the Nikon D-70 - were good, but not perfect. When I saw this camera's specs, I bought it without hesitation, and wow, I am impressed!
It does EVERYTHING one would expect a compact camera to do with ease, and much more. It is easy to use, It is light. It comes packed with features.
The auto-programs and auto-white balance are spot-on. Focusing is quick and silent. The zoom is excellent, and the min f-stops are impressive throughout the focal range. All of this at an unbelievable price! You simply can't go wrong in buying this camera.
If you know my reviews on this and other sites, you will know that I don't easily award more than three stars to a product.
This camera deserves its five stars - it is easily the single best online purchase I've made all year!
Just not good enough, 18 Sep 2008
I have been using this for two months now it is my second digital camera my first being the fuji finepix E900. I bought this as a step up from the E900 but have been disappointed, I chose Nikon because I have several film SLRs and have thought them very good. I wanted a veiwfinder so I didn't have to rely on the screen in bright sunlight but you still can't see in bright sunlight also when you zoom in and out it jumps in steps rather than a smooth movement making things differcult to frame exactly not as good as the fuji. When you make prints they are okay if you don't enlarge them too much but use the highest megapixal setting for best result. I think its best point is the macro facilty which is quite good. It is expensive for the results you get twice the price of the fuji but no better quality.
Another fantastic camera from Nikon., 20 Aug 2008
I already own an old Nikon 5200, so was looking for something to step up from towards SLRs.
I spent a lot of time searching reviews and advice on this type of camera, a major competitor was the Panasonic Lumix FZ18. However after ordering the Lumix it just didn't feel right. The only advantage I could see was that it had better reviews in most cases, which was down to it's automatic 'point and shoot' mode being much better than that of the Nikon.
However I sent it back and ordered the Nikon. The Nikon had a good, well made feel to it, (I prefer it being made from metal) and I've found its auomatic mode to be absolutely fine, though by doing some fiddling around with its modes, semi automatic and automatic modes you can acheive fantastic results. This is not a camera for those who want to point and shoot, if you're interested in photography and want to learn more about SLR type cameras then this is the camera for you. If not, I'd reccommend the Lumix.
I did not buy this camera for the 'superzoom' quality. It does not perform well in dark light at full zoom, recieving a lot of noise. However having used it for just an hour it's macro mode is fantastic. I've yet to use it for my other favourite shots; night landscape however if its anything like my old 5200 (which took awesome photos in this scenario compared to cameras like it) then I'm sure it'll be amazing.
The only thing I don't like about this camera is the lens cap; its just a push on one, rather than the click fit type on the Lumix.
