Happy with purchase, 18 Oct 2008
I was nervous that this would not work because I was aware that when a cassette goes into my stereo it moves downwards behind a small metal plate - I was therefore concerned the cable would be cut or jammed - it wasn't a problem.
It does work best with the iPOD volume on full, rather than the stereo volume high up - there is a bit of hissing in between songs, but I guess that was always the case with tapes!!
I would recommend this product for those that want to use their iPOD in the car
useless, 20 Aug 2008
The mechanical noise of this adapter is so loud that it is useless for listening to music.
The Pefect Solution, 06 Aug 2008
So, I have bought this great Volkswagen Lupo, but alas! It has a tape player, and who even knows where to buy those anymore, unless they are in wire basket cages in the co-op, where the most diverse music to be found is 'Popular Brass Band Music of the 70s! Volume 3' (where to be honest, we all know they exhausted all the best 'popular brass band music of the 70s in volumes 1 & 2). Anyway... to the crux...
So I needed a solution to this problem, someway to get what I want coming out of my little car's speakers. I own a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone, which is brilliant for holding all the music I want, so the music coming out of something problem was sorted. It's just... how was I to get this music coming out of my car speakers?
I spent a good couple of weeks looking into the best solution. FM transmitters seemed to have all their little niggles and faults, from the frequency needing changing every now and then, to poor battery life. So I looked to cassette adaptors. I had owned a couple before, both bought from Argos, a couple of pounds a shot, and they were extremely poor quality, and promopty broke within a few months. I decided then to go for it, and try this time for a 'high end' cassette adaptor. And I am extremely glad I did!
The sound quality is perfect, coming out of my phone, the sound is exactly as if a cd were playing from an inbuilt cd player. The noise never becomes crackly when it gets loud either, it's good for that too, as bass isn't interferred with. As a product, it simply does as you ask, without any problems, something rare to find. Worth every penny.
I sadly have had to buy two, but through my fauly entirely; I caught the cable around my foot (I'm not even sure why) and proceeded to exit the car, and feeling my foot caught, thinking it was just a shoe lace, I pulled hard on the cable and it proceeded to break. Very sad that it happened, but again, something that could have been easily helped!
If you are even thinking of buying this adaptor as potential solution to your problems, I would struggle to advise it more.
Totally does what it says on the pack, 13 Jun 2008
Bought to connect an iPod Shuffle to the car stereo. Worked perfectly. Small amount of wow at high stereo volumes readily corrected by adjusting volume of iPod. Recommend without reservation.
Works well for me., 01 May 2008
I was going to buy a wireless transmitter for my ipod, but came across this instead. Very pleased I did, too. It works very well, even though my in-car cassette player itself is rather old and knackered. Much simpler to use than the wireless devices, and best of all no interference or loss of signal.
The sound is pretty good, and if you've only got a standard in-car system, you probably won't need anything better.
I just hope it lasts!
Beware though, according to the instructions:
It cannot be used in a cassette deck in which you insert a cassette with its tape opening facing away from you.
Worth mentioning I guess.

Excellent, 12 May 2008
I bought this to replace a Philips stereo which lasted a year. In the hope of this lasting longer, I spent another 50+ pounds on this model, and I was very happy.
In the box comes a slim remote controller (without AAA batteries), with an English manual (for UK) and a power lead. The stereo itself is very well designed, and sturdy. It does not seem to be made out of the cheap plastic my previous Philips, Sharp, Hitachi stereos were made out of.
The stereo itself is not light, not heavy. Its handle is huge, the aerial is normal, cassette deck is well positioned with the buttons, and the CD tray is on the top. One down side is that the CD door is quite large, so it takes some time to open and close - but the oil will wear down on that.
Whats not mentioned anywhere is that this speaker actually has CONVEX shaped speakers, which is rather wierd, as normal speakers are concave shaped, but apparently its a design to allow more dynamic and wide music output which I thought was quite nice. The speakers go very loud. The volume button has two buttons, so its rather annoying if you want to put the music from level 1 to 10 without having to wait 30 seconds. The speakers do have good power to them, and I thought it was excellent sound, especially with the Mega Bass function (although this didn't make MUCH of a difference with it being on).
The player can play MP3 too and has an Operate button on the front to turn on and off. It also has a sleep function which is handy, so you can set it to turn off by itself. The player also has I think 3 presents for the equaliser, which you can't change. Doesn't make a huge difference changing this but might do depending on your music.
Overall, a very very good sturdy well built model from Sony. Impressed so far. Definitely worth a purchase!
*This model seems to have been out since 2006, however Sony have released a new model which is exaclty the same which released in Nov 2007. The new model is £80 at the moment - compared to £65 for this model, and the new model is Blue in colour. There is however NO difference as far as I am aware between the two models apart from the colour, and the shelf life its had.*
Hope that helps!

Excellent kitchen / portable radio for a 'work' enviromnent, 20 Apr 2007
This is a really nice and 'simple' product to use.
Tuning is easy because it has the 'old fashioned' analogue dial. It makes finding a station simple.
The on-off switch is big and on the front of the set. The radio uses regular 'AA' batteries, which seem to last forever. I bought one of these radio's for my wife - she uses it in the kitchen every day, and to listen to when ironing. The on/off switch is really useful when the phone rings and you have 'kitchen' or 'garden' fingers - you don't get the radio all messy or wet!
My mother-in-law liked it so much that we got her the same model for her birthday, and it also lives in her kitchen most of the time.
The sound is good, and can be quite loud. The sound quality over headphones is really nice too, but you must provide your own headphones - or stereo 'pocket' loudspeakers.
I highly recommend this product for anyone who needs a reliable radio in a 'working' environment. Its a good size (small enough) to put in a drawer or other secure place too.
The A.C. adaptor from Sony might be a wasted investment for this set, because it really is good on battery life - for the same price you could get a set of NiMh batteries AND a charger!

Useful & neat little radio, 16 Sep 2005
Miserly on batteries, although I'd use rechargables or run off the mains if you can. FM stereo on headphones nice touch. No mono switch or tone control, which would have been helpful.
Pretty sensitive on shortwave, although a short length of wire attached to the aerial via a small crocodile clip improves reception no end.
In all a nice package. Just annoyed that the mains adaptor socket is a Sony exclusive one, although I'm sure you can find compatible non-Sony mains adaptors to fit it.
Really easy-to-use, 23 Jan 2004
If you're a beginner in the short-wave world this item will help you to discover it. You'll hear all the most important broadcasting stations in a quite good quality and sometimes you'll discover a lot of new sounds... I'll suggest to you!!!

Does what it's meant to, 28 Sep 2006
This is a simple, cheap and easy-to-use radio. It doesn't have any flashy features, but that clearly isn't the aim of this model anyway.
The styling is nice; it follows the classic handheld shape/layout, but the book-like curves give it a slightly more up-to-date feel. Oddly, it's slightly wedge shaped- one side is quite thick- but it fits well in your hand.
The FM reception seems to be pretty good most of the time. I can't really judge AM (MW) because I don't use that as much, and the PC or TV normally interferes with reception; but it seems okay (as far as MW goes, anyway).
You wouldn't expect something this size to give really loud hi-fi sound, and it doesn't. Given those limitations, speech is fine, and music is listenable, although hardly outstanding. Want better/louder sound? Get a bigger radio.
Headphone output only goes to one ear with normal stereo headphones. I don't blame them for omitting FM Stereo from a cheap one-speaker radio, but mono output in both ears would be nice!
This thing seems to go *forever* on two alkaline AA batteries, which is another of its strengths. Build quality also seems to be fine.
This is a simple, unpretentious radio that does its job at a decent price.
Good radio, 22 Oct 2005
This is a high quality product from Sony which, as you might expect, is sturdily built and extremely durable. It's quite bulky for a personal radio, and on removing the packaging you might be surprised by how thick it is. Also, it only sends sound to the one side of the headphones, so it's not ideal for listening to music. Otherwise it's fine and cheap at the price.

Good in parts but poor AM, 13 Sep 2007
Although FM reception is good, I found AM very poor - lots of noise and virtually no reception when product is held upright. Tape quality is good as expected. Controls are fiddly - too few buttons. Battery life good, especially considering only takes 1 X AA. Design of battery compartment poor though - after using for about 18 months, broke after dropping a couple of feet, rendering it virtually unusable. Would not buy this product again. EXCELLENT !, 08 Apr 2006
I was a bit wary about buying this item after reading the review by the person who said I'd have to be under a radio mast to get a good radio signal. I'm glad I followed the other reviwers - this is a great item for the money. I've already pre-set the stations I need and pick them up very well. Excellent item ! A Nice Piece of Kit., 22 Oct 2005
I purchased this mainly to listen to tapes for some coursework that I do. However, the radio on it is extremely good and I did not realise how improved the new Walkmans are. If you have a need to play tapes and also want a reasonable portable radio, then buy this. sony walkman, 05 Oct 2004
Having only just bought the walkman, and mainly for cassette use, I was surprised how good the radio is. I have travelled to different parts of the country and have had no problems tuning it in to both national and local stations. My wife now uses it as a radio inside a building and has no problems with reception. I recommend it. Phoney Sony, 25 Feb 2004
I purchased this walkman to listen to whilst walking to work and a radio was a prerequisite for me, hence why I chose not to go down the CD walkman route. But sadly now, I am trying to find a few tapes so I actually have something to listen to on it! In short, the radio, despite claiming to be able to store 40 radio station presets, is really poor. I live near Reading and I can only pick up 2 or 3 crackly stations - 2 national and 1 local. The tape machine part is as you'd expect and does the job. However, in my opinion it's a pretty poor performance and even more disappointing because it is a Sony; frankly, buying a cheaper brand might have actually done a better job. So if you will listen more to the radio, unless you live under a radio mast I'd think twice before buying this model!

Customer Reviews
Happy with purchase, 18 Oct 2008
I was nervous that this would not work because I was aware that when a cassette goes into my stereo it moves downwards behind a small metal plate - I was therefore concerned the cable would be cut or jammed - it wasn't a problem.
It does work best with the iPOD volume on full, rather than the stereo volume high up - there is a bit of hissing in between songs, but I guess that was always the case with tapes!!
I would recommend this product for those that want to use their iPOD in the car useless, 20 Aug 2008

Portable, yes, but convenient, no., 15 Jul 2007
This CD player is certainly portable, but not very convenient because there is no belt clip or means of attachment to clothing. In other words, you can be stationery with it on a surface near you or moving provided you hold it!
Unfortunately, this deficiency cannot be seen without cutting open the firm plastic packaging, which then voids the conditions for return to Amazon.
The sound quality is satisfactory but the "mega bass" does not do much for my hearing.
Misleading advert, 19 Jun 2007
I ordered via Amazon.UK a Sony walkman CD player that reads CDs recorded in MP3 format. It is for my 94 year old mother to listen to archaeological and other reports that I get as podcasts.
It arrived within 2 days from kkelectronics and works perfectly. We are very happy with it, especially the fact that once stopped, it resumes where it was stopped, very useful when there are a hundred or so MP3 tracks, or 30 or so hours recorded. The radio works well too.
However, there was no AC adaptor in the pack. The Amazon advert stated that there is an AC adaptor included in the box.
I emailed kkelectronics about this and got the following reply.
"Hi
Amazon listing is incorrect-if look in the leaflet with the product,it lists what is included in the pack
you can return it for full refund
regards
jawar"
I don't want to return it for a full refund. My mother loves this little machine. The machine itself deserves a 5 out of 5. However we now have to spend another 20 pounds on top of the machines original 38 pounds cost to get a Sony AC adaptor that the Amazon advert said was included.
Because of this I only rate this Sony D-NF340 MP3 CD Walkman at 3 stars

Because of this I only rate this Sony D-NF340 MP3 CD Walkman at 3 stars
strand ipod cassette adaptor, 16 Oct 2008
Excellent value and gives a much better quality of sound than the previous adaptor I had purchased (from Argos) at a fraction of the cost. Remember music through a car cassette is never going to be brilliant.
EXCELLENT VALUE, 19 Jun 2008
Does exactly what it says on packaging, works out of box. used to my archos excellent sound, recommend.

Every thing you expect from Sony.
I am sure I will use this for at least five years.
Two days later.....
Sory to say this about sound. Very poor sound, two three meters away cant hear and now I will keep this for about five months.
Great little recorder, 26 Aug 2007
I use this to record voice, and I love all its features - very easy to use. The one drawback is the machine noise that comes through (clicks and whirs), but for my purposes that's not a big problem. I'm hoping that experimenting with different volume levels on recording and/or playback may improve things.
It is great!, 19 Oct 2004
I bought a new one beacuse I needed something to record my singing lessions. I have tried many diferent recorders, but I must say that this one is perfect. The mic record great. The sound is clear expecialy with high notes when usualy you get unreciognasible sound. Really, I am very setisfided!
Get this, 20 Mar 2004
Absalouetly great, recording so clear its like talking to yourself, for 30 quid a throw its definitely worth it!Buy this product now!!!
