Couldn't ask for a better USB hub, 06 Nov 2008
This is exactly what you need from a USB hub. Open the box, plug it in and it works first time without a hitch. Nothing crashed (XP) and all my devices worked without a problem. Spending a little bit extra on a decent bit of kit is definitely the way to go with USB hubs. Highly recommended.
Just to add my endorsement, 29 Sep 2008
I agree with everyone who gives this device 5* - had mine 18 months with absolutely no troubles. Worked right out of the box and has been trouble free ever since. I've heard other USB hubs have been problematic - if you're worried, then buy this one.
After Sales Service not up to much, 11 Sep 2008
Seemed to work well then the unit went faulty, the supplier is very slow to respond and all return costs have had to be made by me. Suggest you buy from a supplier that has good after sales reputation as the odd saving is soon swallowed by postage/packing plus the time it takes standing in a post office que to send via recorded delivery. It's a fact of life that things may go faulty but the sign of a quality company is how they respond and resolve the issue.
Do not buy!, 31 May 2008
I got this item today morning and 4 hours later I just printed the return labels.
All the external hard drives did not work on it, all says unknown device or storage diveci cannot start. The printer is just printing like split 1 page to 5 and printing on 5 page. And I could not find any support for it! So its rubbish! I plugged in my old Trust 4 ports USB 2.0 HUB and ready to buy a new hub for the rest of the stuff. BUT SURELY NOT D-LINK!!! :(
does the job, 31 May 2008
just plug it in and you are away.
notes
* you must separate your USB devices into fast and slow. In my case fast includes external hard drive and webcam. slow includes mouse and keyboard. Only plug fast or slow devices into your hub. if you mix them, your slow devices will slow down your fast ones.
* it requires its own mains socket for power. (well it would - you can't get power for all 7 devices down the single cable that comes from your computer).

Recommended USB 4 PORT HUB, 04 Oct 2008
Bought this at a good price several days ago.
I needed more usb ports, especially with wireless mouses etc; I'm also about to purchase an additional hard drive to store photographs on.
I was runing out of ports and read reviews on this little hub.
I was't disappointed. I have windows xp and it took seconds to set up.
And there you go, all devices detected and no problems.
5 stars for value for money and it does what it says on the tin!!!!!!!
D-Link DUB-H4 - 4-Port USB 2.0 Hu, 04 Sep 2008
I have used, without success, a number of different hubs. Look no further! This really is an excellent hub. It will allow you to attach a variety of external devises, including an external hard drive. (The latter is not the case with all hubs, as they are only capable of hosting external devises with low electronic and software demands.) I would definitely recommend this product. Excellent value for money.
D-Link 4 port USB Hub, 14 Jul 2008
Ordered via Amazon/kikatek.
Dispatched by 2nd.Class Mail and received in 2 working days. Won't go through the letterbox but was waiting.
Plugged in, switched on and the D-Link H-4 is working much better than my previous hub however, that may be because I thought the cheapest USB hub would do.
Highly recommended
Ok so far...but not quite sure, 09 Jun 2008
I bought this in Feb (4 months ago) as I needed a powered hub for my USB drive. Worked out of the box without any problems but now the power LED appears to start flashing/flickering at random times. The device still appears to work as normal but I am nervous especially as I do my image backups using it. I may well return it.
Solves your USB power problems (eg. for external HDD)., 28 May 2008
This is a well designed and constructed USB 2.0 hub with PSU brick. I recently bought a WD 250GB Passport drive which works OK on my Sony VAIO but not on any of three desktop PCs in the house due to limitations on the current available from their USB ports. The Passport drive has no provision for a power brick and the Lindy dual-USB cable also failed to spin up the drive. This powered hub worked first time on all three PCs, providing enough current from the USB port to spin up the Passport drive.

Really good buy!, 03 Oct 2008
I was quite impressed about this product, once you get over the P&P charge. It's really good! There is a red light indicating when the product is on, and four green lights which light up and indicate the ports that are in use. There is about half a cm gap between each port, which isn't much, but it's good if your memory stick is slim. Cables aren't really an issue, it's plenty of space for several usb cables.
Beware that the mains plug is a massive bulky box, which was a bit of trouble inserting into to an extension cable full of plugs, but no worries otherwise.
I read in another review that it didnt shut down with the computer, mine was fine with this problem. I'm running windows XP on a Dell and it's perfectly fine.
May i add that the cable is pretty long in length, I had no issues with it reaching from the tower on the floor to my desk - and the cable is USB A to USB B, for those who wish to buy a different cable.
A great, compact and useful piece of kit. Recommend to anyone!
Good hub but beware of relatively expensive p&p, 28 Sep 2008
I am very happy with the hub - it works well, is lightweight and it was delivered promptly. However, I want to let others know about the p&p charges. I chose express delivery and P&P was £7.18. I thought the postage might have been pricey because of the weight (due to the adaptor rather than the hub) so when it arrived I checked the packaging - the actual postage cost was £6.05. You're charged £1.13 for a small padded envelope (that can bought in bulk for around 10-15p each). It's not a huge amount of money but if you are thinking about buying this product, it is helpful to know up front that the P&P charges may be more than the cost of the product itself...
A mixed bag of a device, 26 Sep 2008
This is a bit of a mixed bag of a hub with some good and bad points.
Starting with the good points the device is competitively priced, working out at less than a tenner including postage and packing from Hibaba. For that outlay you get the hub itself plus the USB A-B 1.5m connecting cable and a decently made power supply. It is well packaged and comes with full instructions in both English and French. It is ideal for connecting a number of high power USB devices at the same time as it can be self powered, but it can also be used with just the USB bus power for single items or multiple low power devices. There is a red LED indicating power, either bus or from the adaptor, and green LEDs for each of the four ports showing usage. So far so good!
On the negative side the USB ports are quite close together so using multiple wide devices is not possible. It will only suit multiple devices which are the width of a standard USB connector - so if you have chunky WiFi adaptors, dongles or memory sticks you may not be able to fit them all in at once. This is, however, quite a common problem with several other hubs as well - but more annoying here because this hub is self powered lending itself to multiple device use.
I use this hub on two fairly old Dell Dimension PCs, one still running Windows 98se and the other running XP and I have similar problems with both of them when using this device. Although the hub works fine if plugged in and unplugged when the PCs are up and running, if not then I have problems. Firstly, if the hub is plugged in when the PC is running and then the PC is subsequently shut down, with the hub still connected, the PC does not auto power off. Windows closes OK but the PC power remains on.
Secondly, if the PC is started up with the hub attached it will not boot up - it gets to the pre-boot display but will not search for a boot drive until the hub is unplugged. Whether this is a fault with the hub or a compatibility problem with the Dells I do not know. However, I have used other hubs on both PCs with no problems. Obviously this is not a problem when using a laptop but may be worth bearing in mind if you want to leave the hub permanently connected to a PC.
Would have been a five star product, but a point off for these niggles.
Great little hub, compact and reliable., 11 Aug 2008
Works with our without external power (external power only needed for high power accessories)
No problems whatsoever, great purchase
Good Value, 23 Jul 2008
Lightweight plastic hub yet sturdy with good, solid USB sockets. Supplied USB connecting lead and mains power adaptor seem well made too. Everything worked fine straight out the box. Can be used without mains adaptor if you're not drawing too much power through the hub.

Good but has a limitation, 12 Nov 2008
Not till after I'd bought this did I find in the booklet that it might not be able to supply enough power to everything plugged into it. I can plug my printer and cordless mouse/keyboard into it, no problems, but I can't plug an external hard drive into it. It just can't supply enough power to the HD even when the HD is the only thing plugged in. Apart from this, it's a nice little device, good-looking, and has a sucker underneath to stop it moving around on the desk.

Fine ... until it died, 15 Nov 2008
The hub was fine - did what it should do. And then it died. It worked fine for 2 years so not so bad but a little bit disappointed.
Beware, this is a USB 1.1 hub, 04 Mar 2008
Well, like the title says, this is a USB 1.1 hub, unless none of the USB gadgets you are going to plug in are data intensive this is a good hub.
Basically, this hub is good for mouse, keyboard, usb fans, usb remote etc. kind of equipment; if you are thinking of plugging in data intensive enquipment like hard drives, usb flash drives, just forget this hub.
If you use this hub to plug in a hard drive into your computer, then data read/write speed will be very low; USB2 has been out for quite a while now. So do yourself a favour and get a USB2 hub, there are a couple nice ones here on Amazon's site, same price.
no worries, 12 Jan 2008
Arrived, plugged in adapter which is a block with 13A plug integrated, fired up and everything works fine. It looks cool, it runs cool and its small enough to sit on the desk.Enough power to run everything I use, Scanner, graphic pad, modem, two printers and a pair of Logitech speakers.

I sat in all morning eagerly awaiting my new Hub. I had tidied up the cables and planned where everything should go. When the hub arrived, though, I was rather disappointed. It was wired with a 2 pin plug and not the UK 3 pin I was expecting. I now have to live with an adapter sticking out of my wall, which isn't the end of the world, but wasn't what I would have chosen. The Hub does work well and I can use the first 4 ports without the power adapter so all is not lost. I would have chosen a different product if I had known about the plug though.

I was't disappointed. I have windows xp and it took seconds to set up.
And there you go, all devices detected and no problems.

This is a great USB hub. High quality and high Speed.
it has one usb port at the top which i found very useful for my flash USB storage.
good weight so does not drop from weight of cables

Works great!, 19 Dec 2007
When I received the hub, I had a surprise. It came in a clear plastic box (which was hard to be opened in my opinion) and neatly packed.
Each port was protected by a silicone cap which is a nice plus.
I connected all my peripherals to the hub, and then connected it in one of my laptop USB ports. I run Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit and everything worked.
The provided power adapter ensure that every piece of hardware has enough power to work correctly without the need to use the USB port power.
The only strange thing about it is that whenever I need to power on my laptop, I have to disconnect the hub from the USB port first and only when the POST procedure is complete, I can plug it back so the Operating System loads the drivers etc. I think this is a problem related to my laptop BIOS so I won't complain about the hub.
I'm happy with this purchase and I'd recommend this hub to everyone who wants an organized desk plus more USB ports.
---
I bought a Mac laptop and this hub has been doing it's job greatly. I haven't had any problems at all. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.
Nicely Engineered and Trouble Free, 31 Jan 2007
This Kensington hub should look very smart sitting on top of, or next to, any of the recent Power Macs - even my ageing G4. It's a nicely made piece of kit and suitably heavy for the cables not to pull it all over the place. Activity on each of the 7 USB (2.0) ports is indicated by a green LED on the front of the unit. Six of the ports are located on the rear of the unit, while a 7th, easy access, port is located on top, presumably aimed at memory sticks etc. All ports are shipped with a rubbery dust plug inserted.
A wall-wart mains adapter is included, so connected devices needn't rely on USB buss power (though the adapter does not have to be connected if not required). A USB extension cable (about 1.5m) is also included in the box; handy as the unit's attached USB cable is only about 30cm long.
Installation on my Mac (Dual 1.42GHz G4 Mac Pro, OSX 10.4.6) was trouble free. I plugged the Kensington hub into a USB socket on the rear of my Mac and it just worked - no problems. Connecting the mains adapter to the hub does not cause any problems - as it has done with other hubs I have owned.
In summary; I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to Mac users - I cannot vouch for its PC compatibility or performance.
Good without power, 10 Aug 2006
The hub would not allow my Dell Dimention 5000 to start. The button just flashed. Unplug the hub and it would start and the hub could be plugged in again at any time. I have since found that if the power to the hub is unpluged there is no problem and even the webcam works without power.

No problems whatsoever, great purchase Good Value, 23 Jul 2008
Fine ... until it died, 15 Nov 2008

I would have chosen a different product if I had known about the plug though. a perfect hub..., 17 Oct 2008
A perfectly wonderful unit, couldn't be improved. It's neat, very solid with it's weighted base, the sockets are well spaced and the indication lights suitably discrete. Well worth the money. Couldnt be happier, 11 Apr 2008
This is a great USB hub. High quality and high Speed.
it has one usb port at the top which i found very useful for my flash USB storage.
good weight so does not drop from weight of cables
**********************STARS but amazons max is five...

Excellent reader but new buyers beware, 03 Oct 2008
I've had this reader for a few years now and been using it on a G4 iMac. It has performed perfectly well over that time. Please be wary if you're a new buyer though as it won't work with SD cards over 1GB and it won't recognise the SDHC cards that are available now (which weren't around at the time of this products release).
I've had it working fine with a 2GB Compact Flash card and it's been fine on the USB 1 port of my iMac.
It's a nice little reader but out of date. You're probably better off getting something more up to date that can handle more. Brilliant for those who don't want any fuss!, 16 Mar 2008
i have had this card reader for some 8 months now and I never fail to appreciate the speed and ease with which it does the job - I have used it on both Windows XP and MAC OS Tiger - I have not bothered to put the additional drivers on my systems and have not felt any need to explore why this might be a good idea. It does what I want and brilliantly. I am about to change to an Olympus camera with XP -M Picture Card and I trust it will do just as good a job for me with that . . . You can't go wrong. excellent, 10 Jan 2006
Very fast. Easy as pie to use. I was previewing photos within 5 minutes of the postman delivering it. Does What It Says On the Tin, 17 Nov 2005
Works as advertised, no problems. It's seen as a USB mass storage device in Linux (and presumably Windows) and works smoothly. Be careful if you want to move data between different types of cards on the fly though, as (at least) one of the slots is overloaded i.e. one of the slots takes two different types of card, so sharing between them would not be possible. This isn't really a problem though, since even if you end up in this situation it's easily solvable by copying the data to your HD and then swapping cards to write it onto the new card.
A Word of Warning, 31 Oct 2005
The reader works well up to a point. That point is 1Gb. It cannot cope with cards greater than 1Gb which is a shame because the cards I use these days are 2Gb. If you search on Belkins support page the only answer it has is that it doesn't support >1Gb but they will bring out a future product that will. For me this was a waste of money.
